Shigeru Miyamoto Says Nintendo Won't Change After His Retirement because of shared vision

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong, has stated that he believes Nintendo will continue to exist exactly as it is even after he retires.

In an interview with NPR, Miyamoto was asked about what the company will look like without him and he replied, "You know, I really feel like it's not going to change. It's probably going to be the same."

to be Nintendo

Miyamoto, who is now 70 years old, still holds a position of great prestige within Nintendo. He stated that there are people within the leadership and developers within the company who all feel what it means to "be" Nintendo. They all share a vision and a sense of what the company is, and there aren't many different opinions on that.

"Because of that, when a new idea comes up, we always ask ourselves whether that idea contains the core of Nintendo," Miyamoto continued. "we have this incredible shared vision, almost a little scary shared vision, about this. So I think there won't - it's not going to change."

shared vision

Miyamoto has clearly established a company culture that values a shared vision and a dedication to the core of Nintendo's identity. Miyamoto stated as recently as 2020 that he does not intend to retire for the time being, but when he does, it appears that the company will continue with the same values and principles that have made it successful for decades.
