007 First Light Goes Gold: IO Interactive's Bond Origin is Ready for Deployment

Put your tailored suits in the dry cleaner because IO Interactive just confirmed their James Bond origin story is officially finished.

It takes a massive amount of pressure to deliver a proper James Bond experience, but the studio behind the modern Hitman trilogy is clearly on track. IO Interactive announced on X that 007 First Light has officially gone gold. For those unfamiliar with the industry term, going gold means the 1.0 master build of the game is locked in, complete, and ready to be pressed onto physical discs and uploaded to digital storefronts. I have been tracking this project closely, especially after my chat with the franchise art director during my IO Interactive James Bond development interview at Gamescom last year. Seeing it cross the finish line without any (extra) last minute delays is a massive relief.

The Target Release Window

You will not have to wait much longer to earn your license to kill. 007 First Light is locked in for a global release on May 27, 2026. The game is dropping simultaneously across the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.

If you are planning to take your espionage on the go with Nintendo's newest hardware, you will need to exercise a bit of patience. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light is currently scheduled to launch later this summer. IO Interactive has not provided an exact date for the portable release yet, but I expect they need a few extra months to optimize their engine for the new console architecture.

Pre-Order Intel and Bonus Gear

You do not send a 00 agent into the field without proper equipment. If you commit your cash early, IO Interactive is handing out a stash of cosmetic gear to customize your run. If you are going to infiltrate an enemy compound and inevitably trigger a massive firefight, you might as well look good doing it.

Gear Category Pre-Order Unlocks
Tactical Outfits Day of the Dead, Desert Explorer, Silent Anchor, and Gentleman Operator suits.
Weapon Cosmetics Agent's Mark weapon skin to customize your primary firearms.
Gadget Customization The Gleaming Pack, which applies exclusive skins to your spy gadgets.

The 007 DualSense Controller

If digital cosmetics are not enough for your collection, Sony Interactive Entertainment partnered directly with IO Interactive to produce some physical hardware. You can get your hands on a limited edition 007 First Light DualSense Controller designed specifically for the PlayStation 5.

The controller launches on the exact same day as the game. Given how fast these limited edition Sony controllers sell out, you should absolutely secure yours before the scalpers drain the inventory. You can preorder the 007 First Light DualSense Controller right now to ensure you are fully equipped when May 27 rolls around.
