How to Find and Beat Absolum's Secret Final Boss for the True Ending
Think you’ve seen everything Absolum has to offer just because you beat the Sun King? You’ve only scratched the surface. The real final boss is waiting, and this guide will show you how to face it.
So you’ve battled your way through the brutal, roguelite hellscape of Absolum, mastered the beat-'em-up combat, and finally put Sun King Azra in the ground. You’ve seen the credits roll and you’re feeling pretty good about yourself. I’m here to tell you that you’re not done. You’re not even close.
The game has a secret final boss: the titular Absolum - and a true ending locked behind it. Getting there is a challenge in itself, and the fight is a true test of everything you’ve learned. If you’re ready to see how deep this rabbit hole goes, here’s exactly what you need to do.
Step 1: Beat the Game (The First Time)
Before you can even think about the true ending, you need to complete a standard run. This means fighting your way through every biome, reaching the final area of Asterios, and defeating Sun King Azra.
This is no small feat. It will likely take you a significant amount of time and require you to have a decent number of permanent Crystal upgrades for your characters. Once you defeat Azra for the first time, you'll unlock the Ritual of Time and enter what is effectively the game's epilogue.
Step 2: Prepare for the Second Run
After activating the Ritual of Time, the world of Talamh gets a whole lot nastier. Strange portals will begin to appear, spewing out tougher enemies from different parts of the map into every zone. Your new quest is simple: do it all again.
You need to complete another full run of the game and get back to the Sun King's arena. This time, however, there’s a critical requirement.
Step 3: Hoard Your Mother's Grace
This is the most important part. To trigger the secret boss fight, you must reach Sun King Azra’s arena with at least one Mother's Grace (your self-revive) still intact.
When you enter the fight, Absolum will appear and instantly kill you. If you don't have a Grace to revive yourself, your run will end right there. You’ll be kicked back to the main menu, filled with nothing but regret. This means you have to play through the entire game, from start to finish, without dying once.
Luckily, there are a couple of ways to make this easier:
The Asterios Vendor: There is a merchant in the final area, Asterios, who will sell you a Mother's Grace for 800 coins. If you arrive without a Grace but have the cash, you can buy one right before the final fight.
The Best Method: The most reliable way is to spend your permanent Crystal currency at the hub to unlock the ability to carry a second Mother's Grace. This gives you a crucial safety net, allowing you to die once during your run and still have a Grace left for the Absolum fight.
Step 4: Defeat Absolum
Once you trigger the fight and get revived by your Grace, the real battle begins. Absolum is, without a doubt, the hardest boss in the game. It has devastating attacks that can wipe you out in seconds and, to make matters worse, it will fully restore its health multiple times throughout the fight. This is an endurance test.
To stand a chance, you need to come prepared.
Have a Busted Build: Don't even attempt this fight unless you have a powerful combination of Rituals and items.
Master Your Character: By now, you should know which character you're best with. A fully upgraded Karl is a particularly strong choice for this fight.
Unlock Everything: I wouldn't even walk into this fight until you've purchased every single permanent upgrade with Crystals. You need every advantage you can get.
Master the Clash: If you've gotten good at the "Clash" (parry) mechanic, this fight becomes significantly more manageable. Learning Absolum's attack patterns and clashing them is key to victory.
No Shame in Easy Mode: If you are still struggling and just want to see the ending, don't be a hero. Go into the Assist Options in the menu and either reduce the damage you take or increase the damage you deal. Absolum is a brutal fight, and there's no shame in turning down the difficulty to finally put it down.
The True Ending
Once you finally defeat Absolum, the game's true ending will play. You'll unlock a trophy for your efforts, and the timeline will reset to just before the fight, allowing you to continue doing endless runs with everything you've unlocked.
It’s a long and arduous journey to get there, but seeing the true conclusion to the story is a satisfying reward for mastering everything the game has to throw at you. Good luck. You're going to need it.
