Battlefield 6 Multiplayer Guide: 10 Tips to Dominate the Battlefield

The king of chaotic shooters is back and better than it's been in years. But it's also a brutal, unforgiving experience for newcomers. This guide will help you get started.

Let's be clear: Battlefield 6 is a glorious return to form. It’s a bombastic, beautiful, and deeply satisfying shooter that marks the best entry in the series in a long, long time. It’s also a chaotic, overwhelming meat grinder that will chew you up and spit you out if you go in blind. The learning curve is steep, and the game expects you to know a lot right from the start.

I’ve sunk an unhealthy number of hours into this game, dying in every spectacular and stupid way imaginable so you don’t have to. This is the guide I wish I had on day one. These are the essential tips and tricks you need to go from cannon fodder to a valuable part of the team.

1. Understand the Classes and Their Roles

Battlefield 6 brings back the iconic four-class system, and knowing your role is half the battle. Each class has unique gadgets, traits, and weapon proficiencies.

  • Assault: The frontline fighter. An all-rounder who excels with assault rifles. Their Adrenaline Injector gives a speed and damage resistance boost, making them perfect for pushing objectives.

  • Engineer: The vehicle specialist. They carry a rocket launcher to destroy enemy armor and a repair tool to fix friendly vehicles. They are most effective with SMGs.

  • Support: The team's lifeline. They provide healing and ammunition for the squad. Their Defibrillator allows for much faster revives, and they specialize in laying down suppressive fire with LMGs.

  • Recon: The intelligence gatherer. Their job is to spot enemies and provide a tactical overview. Their Motion Sensor gadget reveals enemy positions on the minimap, and they excel at long-range combat with sniper rifles.

2. Don't Ignore the Training Paths

On top of your class, you also have Training Paths. These are essentially mini-perk trees that you level up during a match by playing the objective and helping your team. As you level up the path, you unlock passive bonuses, culminating in a powerful, single-use ability at Level 3. You start with one path per class, and can unlock a second by reaching player rank 20 and completing class-specific assignments.

3. Teamplay is Everything

This isn't a game for lone wolves. Battlefield is about massive, 64-player battles, and coordination is the key to victory. Stick with your squad, spawn on your squadmates, and follow the objective markers your squad leader sets. Even without a mic, using the ping system to call out enemies and coordinate attacks will make a world of difference. A coordinated squad will always have the upper hand.

4. Spot Every Single Enemy

This is the easiest and most impactful thing you can do to help your team. See an enemy? Press the spot button (Q on PC, L1/LB on console). This places a red icon over their head that is visible to your entire team on their screens and minimap. There is no downside. It provides crucial intel, sets up kills for your teammates, and earns you assist points. Make it a reflex.

5. Customize Your Weapon Wisely

The weapon customization is incredibly deep. Each weapon has tons of attachments that affect its Hipfire, Precision, Control, and Mobility. You only have 100 points to spend on each weapon, and every attachment has a cost. This forces you to make meaningful choices about your build. Use the Firing Range to test out different combinations and find what works for you before heading into a live match.

6. Wait for a Revive (When It Makes Sense)

When you die, your team loses a "ticket." When tickets run out, you lose. However, if a teammate revives you, no ticket is lost. If you go down near friendlies, request a revive. Waiting a few seconds can be the difference in a close match. That said, if you're surrounded by enemies or far from the objective, it's better to just respawn and regroup.

7. Use Your XP Boosters

Tucked away in the main menu is a section called "XP Boost." Here, you'll find XP Boosters you've unlocked by completing challenges. Before you jump into a match, activate one. The extra XP will help you level up faster, unlocking new weapons, gadgets, and attachments much more quickly.

8. New to Vehicles? Grab a Tank.

Jumping into a vehicle for the first time can be intimidating. If you're new, your best bet is a tank. It's bulky, has a ton of armor, and its main cannon can take out infantry and light vehicles with ease. It also serves as a mobile spawn point for your squad. Just be mindful of enemy Engineers and their rocket launchers.

9. Master the Art of Destruction

The environments in Battlefield 6 are highly destructible. Use this to your advantage. Is an enemy sniper pinning you down from a building? Blow out their cover with an RPG. Are you defending an objective? Destroy potential entry points to funnel attackers into a chokepoint. The battlefield is your sandbox; reshape it to your will.

10. Solo Players Should Consider the Engineer

If you're playing by yourself, you can still be an incredible asset to your team. The Engineer class is arguably the most versatile for a solo player. Your SMG is dominant in close-quarters, and your rocket launcher allows you to single-handedly deal with the tanks and helicopters that might be terrorizing your team. You can make a huge impact on the flow of the game just by taking out key enemy vehicles.
