Cult of the Lamb Devs Accidentally Made Their New DLC Almost as Big as the Main Game
In a classic case of "oops, we made too much content," the next chapter in your adorable animal cult is going to be an absolute monster.
The developers behind Cult of the Lamb have been dropping lore about their upcoming "Woolhaven" DLC, and the main takeaway is that they have absolutely no chill. After three years of pumping out massive free updates, they're finally releasing a paid expansion early next year, and it’s shaping up to be enormous.
Flying Too Close to the Sun
According to the team's official TikTok page, the "Woolhaven" DLC will be "almost as long as the original game." The reason for this ridiculous scope is refreshingly honest and perfectly on-brand for the studio.
"We flew a little too close to the sun here," the post admits. "We tend to go all out." It's a statement that's hard to argue with, considering their history of wild marketing and huge, game-changing free updates like Unholy Alliance and Sins of the Flesh.
Time to Pay the Piper
This dedication to excess is also why, for the first time, they're actually going to charge us money. After years of giving away entire new gameplay systems, the studio is making the perfectly reasonable argument that they can't just work for free forever.
In another video, they addressed the community's surprise about the price tag. "As much as we'd love to continue updating the game for free forever, it's not realistic for us as a studio," they explained. They were quick to justify the cost, stating that "Woolhaven is so much more than any of these updates. It almost doubles the gameplay from the original release."
They also promised the price will be "really reasonable," which, coming from them, I'm inclined to believe. In an industry obsessed with squeezing every last cent out of players, it's nice to see a studio justify a price tag by simply offering a metric shit-ton of content.
So, while we don't know everything about what awaits us in "Woolhaven," we know two things for sure: it's going to be huge, and it's probably going to be worth whatever they decide to charge for it. Given their track record, I'm more than ready to open my wallet when it drops early next year.
