10 Fellowship Tips to Stop You from Being the Worst Player in the Dungeon

So you've learned not to stand in the fire and to occasionally heal the tank. Congratulations, you've passed kindergarten.

But Fellowship is a game that gets progressively more brutal, and the basics aren't going to cut it when the bosses start throwing new mechanics at you and the dungeon timers are ticking down. If you're still wiping on trash pulls and wondering why your gear sucks, I’ve got some hard-won advice. I've already covered the absolute essentials in my beginner's guide, but it's time to go a little deeper.

Beyond the Basics: Advanced Tactics

These are the tips that separate the rookies from the veterans. Mastering these concepts will make your runs smoother, your gear better, and your teammates less likely to vote-kick you before the first boss.

1. Your Spirit Ability Feeds on Death

That fancy "X" button on your bar is your Spirit Ability, and it's basically your ultimate. It charges slowly on its own, but every enemy you and your team defeat speeds it up significantly. Don't sit on it waiting for the perfect moment. Use it on big trash pulls or tough elites to charge it back up faster for the boss.

2. Your Main Can Gear Up Your Alts

Don't be afraid to try out new heroes. The Quartermaster tokens you earn from completing dungeons are account-wide. This means you can grind on your geared-up main character and then use those tokens to buy a full set of decent starting gear for a new hero you want to try. It’s the fastest way to get an alt up to speed.

3. Quickplay is for Currency, Challenger is for Gear

Stop running Quickplay and complaining about your Item Level. The game modes have different purposes. Quickplay is your casual farm for tokens and Cache Keys. The real gear progression comes from Challenger Mode, which is the only place you'll get gear drops that actually let you push into higher difficulties.

4. Bosses Don't Just Get Stronger, They Get Smarter

Pushing up the difficulty in Challenger Mode isn't just about bigger numbers. As you climb the ranks, bosses will get entirely new abilities, and your party will be hit with nasty debuffs. Specifically, once you hit Contender +7, the "Vayr's Legacy" ascension kicks in, giving all bosses new tricks. You have to re-learn the fights, not just execute them better.

5. Stop Wasting Your Secondary Stats

The game has diminishing returns on its four Secondary Stats: Critical Strike, Expertise, Haste, and Spirit. Once you hit 10% in any of them, every additional point you get from gear is less effective. It’s a complex system, but the short version is: don’t just stack one stat into oblivion. Spreading your stats out is almost always better than going all-in on Haste or Crit.

6. Customize Your Goddamn HUD

You're playing a healer but your party frames are in the bottom left corner of your screen? Fix that. Fellowship has a fully customizable HUD Edit Mode that lets you move pretty much every single UI element. You can drag your party frames, ability bars, and boss frames wherever you want. You can even save and share layouts with your team. There's no excuse for dying because you weren't looking at the right part of the screen.

7. The Leaderboard Actually Gives You Rewards

That leaderboard isn't just for bragging rights. Each week, the game compares your performance on a specific hero against everyone else. Depending on where you land, you can earn a special cosmetic "Trim" for your armor. These trims, ranging from Iron all the way to Platinum, are a temporary way to show off how good you did that week, as they reset every season.

8. Know Your Hero's Secret Spirit Bonus

The Spirit stat does more than just charge your ultimate ability. Every hero gets a unique secondary bonus from it. For example, a Healer like Sylvie has a chance to refund Mana and spawn a healing vine, while a Tank like Meiko can get a massive armor buff. Read your hero's Spirit description. It’s a core part of playing your class effectively at a high level.

9. The Stronghold is Your Best Friend

That hub area you spawn into isn't just a pretty lobby. It's your command center. You can swap heroes, change your gear, practice your abilities on combat dummies, and most importantly, find other players to group up with. Use the chat to recruit for a specific dungeon or difficulty instead of just praying the matchmaking queue gives you someone competent.

10. You Have More Than 5 Abilities

It’s easy to forget in the heat of battle, but your hotbar goes all the way up to 16 abilities, using Shift + number key combinations. Dig into your hero's full kit. Those "extra" abilities are often powerful cooldowns, utility spells, or defensive tools that are absolutely essential for surviving higher-difficulty dungeons.
