GTA 6 is Going to Sell an Absolutely Obscene Number of Copies

In today's "water is wet" news, it turns out that the most anticipated video game in human history is expected to make a fuck-ton of money. Shocker.

A vibrant key art image from GTA 6 shows Lucia and Jason on a dock, Jason aiming a pistol while Lucia holds a briefcase and another pistol, with a Vice City-inspired skyline, police boat, and helicopter in the background.

The hype train for Grand Theft Auto 6 is barreling towards a station made of solid gold, and now we have some numbers to illustrate just how wild this launch is going to be. Parent company Take-Two has crunched the numbers, and even their conservative forecast is staggering.

Take-Two's "Plausible" Prediction

According to a new report, Take-Two has looked at the current pre-order numbers and wishlist data and projects that GTA 6 will sell between 18 and 20 million copies in its first 24 hours on sale.

Let's put that in perspective. The behemoth that was GTA 5 sold around 11 million copies on its release day. Take-Two is betting that a bigger fanbase and the dominance of digital sales will almost double that number. Honestly, that sounds pretty plausible.

Then Come the "Absurd" Numbers

While Take-Two is playing it relatively safe, a few independent analysts have thrown their own ridiculous forecast into the ring. They predict that GTA 6 could sell an incredible 85 million copies within its first 60 days, assuming the launch goes smoothly.

Now, that number seems a bit... ambitious. Like, "I'm going to start jogging and also become an astronaut by Tuesday" ambitious. The report notes that the basis for this prediction is a complete mystery, and it seems a little far-fetched. As is their way, Rockstar has remained completely silent on the whole thing.

No matter which set of numbers you believe, the conclusion is the same: the launch of GTA 6 is set to be the biggest in the history of the industry and a monumental triumph for Rockstar and Take-Two. All they have to do now is release a game that's actually, you know, good. No pressure.
