Seven Years of Waiting Drove This Hollow Knight Fan to Speedrun the Demo and set a permanent world record

At Gamescom 2025, where mere mortals were just trying to get a feel for the long-awaited sequel, one speedrunner saw an opportunity for glory. Armed with a chest-mounted camera and a level of dedication that borders on the certifiable, a YouTuber by the name of BlueSR sat down to do what he does best: break a game before most of us have even touched it.

A New Record for a Game That Doesn't Exist

In a video that feels like found footage from a beautiful, buggy fever dream, BlueSR documents his quest to conquer the Silksong demo. He blazes through the Deep Docks area, one of the two playable levels, in a blistering two minutes and twenty-six seconds. This wasn't some casual playthrough; this was a surgical strike, requiring him to grab the Dock Key and dismantle the Lace boss fight before the convention floor staff probably even knew what was happening.

His commentary is a breathless recounting of the experience, and you can feel the years of pent-up energy in his words. "Let me tell you, man is Silksong good," he gushed. "I’m genuinely awestruck by the quality on display." He raved about Hornet's new moveset, calling out the sprint ability as a game-changer that makes zipping around enemies feel almost "Celeste-ish." High praise from a man who just treated a demo booth like an Olympic event.

Going for 100% Before Day One

As if setting an any-percent record wasn't enough, BlueSR uploaded a second video showcasing his "100%" completion run of the entire demo. He collected every single item, chatted up all the NPCs, and picked a fight with every enemy across both levels, all in just ten minutes and thirty-six seconds. It's a hilarious and frankly awe-inspiring display of pointless mastery. This is the gaming equivalent of memorizing the dictionary just because you can.

He did admit the playthrough was "unpolished," which is the understatement of the century for a game he'd presumably only just laid hands on. He also noted his time was probably hampered by having to use a controller, a foreign object to many a PC purist. Still, it's a hell of an achievement.

The undying, borderline-fanatical devotion of the Hollow Knight community is truly something to behold. While the rest of us are just hoping the game runs on day one, these lunatics are out there setting records, dissecting every frame, and preparing to break the game wide open the second it launches. You have to respect the hustle. A Silksong speedrun before Silksong? Honestly, what else did we expect?
