MISERY FAQ: How to Save, Find the Trader, and Stop Irradiating Yourself
Lost your save? Got killed by your own jacket? Welcome to MISERY. This game explains nothing, so I'm here to answer the big, stupid questions everyone (including me) is asking.
Your Burning MISERY Questions
How Do I Save My Game?! (No, It's Not Autosave)
This is the most important one, so I'm putting it first. This game does not autosave your progress when you disconnect. One poor bastard lost hours of farming because he just disconnected, thinking it would save. It won't.
I've seen so many people asking how to save. You must be inside your bunker. Once you're safe, hit the Escape key and manually press the save button. Do it every single time you return. Don't be that guy.
Where is the Trader?
This isn't obvious, and I had to look it up, too. You don't "find" the trader out in the Zone. According to one of the developers, you have to go to the "Institute bar".
You'll find the button for it right below the "expedition" button.
Why Is My Armor Giving Me Radiation Sickness?
Yeah, this isn't a bug; it's a "feature." I saw people reporting that their Military Jacket or even a Fur Coat was giving them radiation sickness.
Armor alone doesn't cut it. You need to stack your gear. The best result supposedly comes from pairing a hazmat suit with a gas mask, but even that won't make you immune. You'll still need to carry anti-rad meds.
The real endgame solution is artifacts. I've heard from a veteran player who has three artifacts that give a combined -40 radiation, which basically makes him immune to everything. So, until you find those, pop your pills.
How Do I Get Metal Bars?
You can't just throw scrap in a normal fire. You need to use your bunker equipment. First, make sure you've put fuel in your generator.
Then, you need to find a cable and physically connect the generator to the incinerator. Once it has power, you can burn scrap metal inside it to get metal bars.
Seriously, Where Are the Guns?
I know, I know. You're drowning in ammo and throwing rocks. And no, the vendor doesn't sell them, either.
Guns are out there, but they're rare and in specific, dangerous spots. There is one guaranteed PPSH spawn, though. You need to find a warehouse surrounded by concrete walls that also has a hunting tower along one wall. You can get into the tower from below through some wooden cracks. The PPSH and a stash are up there, 100% of the time.
Another spot is a POI with levitating helicopters and three hangars (two open, one closed). The open hangars can spawn AKs, SMGs, and pistols. Just be warned, the place is highly irradiated.
A Quick Warning About Co-op...
This game is still buggy, and it shows. Be mindful of griefers using items to block exits, trapping you.
More importantly, there's a massive, save-corrupting co-op bug. If a friend restarts their game and rejoins your (host) session, they can get put on a totally different map while still colliding with your map's objects.
They'll be on a totally different map version but will still be colliding with your map's objects, meaning they'll just float around, unable to do anything. This seems to corrupt the save, as their "emission" count resets to 0 while the host's stays correct. The devs know about it and say a fix is coming, but for now, be careful.
