The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Is Finally Releasing in January 2026, and I Am Ready to Be Hurt Again
After five years of delays, studio swaps, and radio silence, Ubisoft is apparently ready to let us rewind time for real.
We finally have a date. Well, a leaked date, which is often more reliable than an official Ubisoft roadmap these days. According to a new report from Insider Gaming, the cursed-but-beloved Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is scheduled to hit shelves in mid-January 2026.
Tom Henderson, the insider who usually knows what color underwear Ubisoft execs are wearing, claims the game is slotting in right at the start of the year. This aligns with Ubisoft’s fiscal plans to get this thing out the door before April. If this holds true, we are less than two months away from seeing if that complete development reboot actually saved the game or just delayed the inevitable.
The Game Awards Reveal
If the game is dropping in January, they kind of need to tell us about it, right?
The report says we should expect the "next look" at the game during The Game Awards on December 11, 2025. This is the perfect venue for Geoff Keighley to trot out a "World Premiere" that makes us forget the horrific graphics from the 2020 reveal trailer.
It makes sense. Ubisoft loves a big stage, and they need to wash the taste of the original announcement out of our mouths. A flashy trailer with a "Coming Next Month" tag would be a hell of a mic drop.
A Long, Stupid Road
Let’s just take a moment to appreciate the hell this project has been through.
Announced in 2020. Delayed in 2021. Delayed again indefinitely. Taken away from Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai. Handed to Ubisoft Montreal (the OGs). Rebooted from scratch with a "realistic approach."
It has been a disaster. But the fact that it’s coming out before the rumored Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake suggests Ubisoft is finally confident in it. They aren't burying it; they're leading 2026 with it.
The "Black Flag" Buffer
Speaking of pirates, Henderson also noted that the Prince of Persia remake is still set to launch before the Black Flag remake.
This is good news. It means PoP isn't just filler; it's the main event for Q4 of their fiscal year.
I want to believe. I really do. Sands of Time is a masterpiece, and if Montreal has managed to capture even half the magic of the original while fixing the combat, January is going to be a great month.
But this is Ubisoft. So I’m going to keep my finger hovering over the "Recall" button on my Dagger of Time, just in case.
