Top 9 Necesse Mods to Supercharge Your 1.0 Experience
Necesse finally hit that glorious 1.0 milestone, shedding its Early Access skin. But let's be real, the true longevity of games like this often lies in the hands of the modding community. Thankfully, Necesse's scene is already buzzing.
While the base game offers a solid blend of survival, building, and adventuring, mods can tailor the experience, smooth out rough edges, or just add a metric ton of new stuff to explore. After digging through the Steam Workshop, here are 9 mods that caught my eye for enhancing that 1.0 playthrough.
Let's Get Modding: 9 Upgrades for Your Necesse World
First up, a quality-of-life essential. If you've ever spent ages chipping away at an ore vein block by block, this mod is your savior. It lets you mine entire veins at once, saving you precious time and sanity. This fixed version is updated for 1.0.1 and includes support for newer ore types like Basalt, Granite, and biome-specific ones. Just remember to delete your old config file so it can generate the new one. Credit where it's due to the original author, TriHardest.
Inventory management getting you down? This mod lets you crank up the maximum stack size for items using a simple multiplier. No more filling your pockets with five stacks of stone after ten seconds of mining. You can configure it via chat commands (
/stacksize set <number>
), but be warned: if you lower the multiplier later, sort your chests carefully or you might lose items stacked over the new limit. It's world-specific and requires both host and client to have it installed.
Sometimes, simple is best. This mod adds a stronger torch with twice the light radius of the vanilla one. It costs four regular torches to craft, and you can conveniently uncraft it too. Perfect for pushing back the darkness without plastering torches every two blocks. Plus, you can even tweak the color, intensity, and crafting recipe via a config file if you're feeling fancy.
Trinket management can become a juggling act. "Merge Everything" adds 16 new recipes at the Tungsten Workstation, allowing you to combine various trinkets into more powerful versions. It's a great way to condense buffs and free up slots. Just type "mge" in the workstation search to find the new recipes. Be aware of known issues like duplicated tooltips or potential multiplayer crashes related to them.
Speaking of trinkets, ever wished you just had more slots? This mod lets you customize your trinket capacity. By default, it bumps the maximum to 8, adjusting boss drops accordingly. But you can go further using presets or by editing the config file (
mtsSettings.cfg
) directly in your save file. Want a real challenge? Limit yourself to one slot. Feeling like a god? Crank it up (though the mod recommends caution). It even includes commands to adjust slots on the fly.
Tired of raiders constantly harassing your settlement? Build some automated defenses! The Defense Tower mod adds, well, defense towers. They help protect your base from unwanted guests, letting your settlers (and you) breathe a little easier during raids. As a bonus, they also function as lighthouses. This one requires both server and client installation.
Ready to add a deeper layer of progression? The RPG Mod introduces levels, attributes, and skills right into the core game. It's still under development (currently v0.6), but it fundamentally changes how you approach character building. Keep in mind that progress is world-specific, and disabling the mod or changing your character name can reset your RPG data. Luckily, you can crank up the EXP gain in the settings to catch back up if disaster strikes.
If you're hungry for new content, Soul Chasm delivers. This mod adds a whole new incursion biome with its own unique materials (like Phantom Wood), furniture, seven weapons, an armor set, trinkets, enemies, and even a new boss. It also brings back the creator's older mods, letting you craft Big Jars for storage/decoration and Asphalt Tiles for faster movement. Plus, you can find adorable plushies from the Travelling Merchant sometimes. It even adds a "Haunted" incursion modifier where killed enemies spawn ghosts. Due to ID changes, starting a new save is recommended for this one.
Another solid content addition, the Aphorea Mod aims to expand the game without disrupting the vanilla feel. It boasts over 170 new items, more than 10 new mobs, two entirely new bosses, and a fresh biome to explore. While the creator isn't planning major new features, they intend to keep it updated for bug fixes and compatibility with future Necesse versions.
Mod Your Heart Out
Necesse 1.0 is a great foundation, but the modding community is already proving invaluable for customizing the experience. Whether you need simple QoL tweaks like vein mining and bigger stacks, or you're craving entirely new worlds and systems with Soul Chasm and the RPG mod, there's likely something out there for you. Dive in and see what abominations, or efficiencies, you can create.
