Wolverine Is Playing a Suicidal Game of Chicken with GTA 6

Rockstar's delay just messed up the entire 2026 holiday schedule, but Insomniac is refusing to blink.

So, Rockstar finally admitted the obvious and delayed GTA VI to November 19, 2026. You could practically hear the calendars of every other publisher on Earth collectively tearing in half. Everyone is scrambling to get their big holiday titles out of that quarter.

Except Insomniac.

In a move of pure, unadulterated confidence (or insanity), Insomniac just doubled down. They put out a statement on X, just to remind everyone: Marvel's Wolverine is still "coming Fall 2026". They're not moving.

This Is a Wild Stance

This is a wild stance to take. We are talking about Grand Theft Auto VI. This isn't a normal video game. This is a black hole that will suck every dollar, every minute of playtime, and all media oxygen out of the market for months.

No one, not even a flagship PlayStation exclusive, can survive releasing next to it. Wolverine is a guaranteed blockbuster, but GTA is a different beast. People just can't afford to drop €80 on Wolverine and then another €80-100 on GTA 6 a few weeks later.

So, What's Insomniac's Real Bet?

Is Insomniac suicidal? No. I think they're just smart. They're not planning to compete with GTA 6.

They're betting GTA 6 won't show up.

Think about it. Rockstar is a goddamn mess right now. As I've been covering, they're in the middle of a “ruthless” union-busting scandal. They're firing senior staff who have been there for 18 years. Morale is at "rock bottom", and crunch is back with a vengeance.

Insomniac is looking at that dumpster fire and making the safest bet in gaming: Rockstar is going to delay this thing again.

The 'Baldur's Gate' Move

This isn't a scheduling conflict; it's a high-stakes game of poker, and Insomniac is calling Rockstar's bluff.

They're holding their "Fall 2026" date, which is a nice, vague window. If Rockstar does miraculously hold to November, Insomniac can just slide Wolverine into September or October.

It's the Baldur's Gate 3 maneuver: see the Starfield-sized monster on the horizon and just... get out of the way by releasing a month earlier.

It's the only smart play. Insomniac isn't scared of GTA 6. They just don't believe, with a studio in this much turmoil, that it's even coming next year. And honestly, I don't blame them.
