Silksong Headlines a Bizarre September Game Pass Lineup of Pups, Puzzles, and Pavement
Microsoft has pulled back the curtain on September's Game Pass offerings, and it's a glorious mess of indie darlings, job simulators, and cartoon dogs, all riding the coattails of one, single, massive release.
It’s that time of the month again. The Game Pass lineup for September has been revealed, and it’s an eclectic mix of games that feels like it was curated by a drunk DJ. But let's be honest, none of the other games really matter, because Microsoft has secured the one thing that will make this month an automatic win: Hollow Knight: Silksong is launching day one on the service.
Yes, the mythical beast, the game that has fueled seven years of memes and suffering, is the crown jewel of this month's offerings. Everything else is just along for the ride.
The Main Event You Actually Care About
After years of waiting, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally arriving on September 4th, and it's coming straight to Game Pass on PC, console, and cloud. We were just celebrating the news of its absurdly fair $20 price tag and official release times, and now Microsoft is twisting the knife for anyone on the fence by reminding them that subscribers get the most anticipated indie game of the decade at no extra cost. It’s a killer move.
The Surprisingly Solid Undercard
Once you finally emerge from the depths of Pharloom, blinking in the sunlight after a 100-hour binge, there are actually a few other interesting titles dropping this month. I Am Your Beast is a covert revenge FPS that’s available today, and Nine Sols, a slick, Sekiro-inspired 2D platformer, lands on September 3rd. For the strategy nerds, the fortress-building RTS Cataclismo also hits PC Game Pass on the 4th. They all look promising, assuming they can get any attention in the shadow of Silksong.
And Now For the Weird Stuff
This is where the lineup gets a little strange. For those of you with kids, or who just want to turn your brain off completely, PAW Patrol World is returning to the library on September 10th. Go save some puppies, I guess.
And if you’re tired of playing games for fun, you can now play a game about work. On September 16th, RoadCraft arrives, a construction simulator where you operate heavy machinery to clean up after natural disasters. It continues the proud tradition of digital jobs we inexplicably pay to perform.
What's New (But Not Free)
As always, the DLC and Perks section is a mixed bag of actual value and digital trinkets. An all-new chapter for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle arrives on September 4th, but don't get too excited. Game Pass members don't get it for free; you just get the privilege of a 10% discount on a DLC for a game you might be playing through the service. Thanks, Microsoft.
The rest is the usual smattering of early access trials for sports games (NHL 26) and welcome packs for free-to-play titles (The Finals), so grab them if that’s your thing.
It’s a strange month, for sure. But the sheer gravitational pull of a day-one Silksong release is so immense that it makes this an absolute knockout for Game Pass, no matter how many cartoon puppies had to be included to fill out the roster.
