South of Midnight Actress May Have Just Leaked Her Role in BioShock 4
We might have just accidentally stumbled onto our first real casting news for the next BioShock, and it comes from the most unlikely source imaginable.
Adriyan Rae, who you probably know as the face of the critically acclaimed South of Midnight or from Chicago Fire, recently let slip some details about a "secret" project she worked on back in 2021. While she stops short of naming the game, the breadcrumbs she dropped form a picture that looks suspiciously like Rapture or Columbia. Or, if the other rumors are true, the Antarctic.
The Telekinetic Smoking Gun
The information comes from a recent interview where Rae discussed her past work. She mentioned a gig with 2K Games that took place right after she left Chicago Fire. She described playing the "assistant to a villain" and, more importantly, detailed her character's specific powers.
She said she had "telekinesis" and spent her time "getting people and throwing them against the walls." If that does not sound like a Plasmid or Vigor to you, I do not know what does. She even described the motion capture process in San Francisco, saying she was levitating and doing the "dirty work" for the main bad guy.
Development Hell or Just Secrecy?
Here is where it gets very "BioShock." Rae admitted she has no idea if the game ever came out or if it was cancelled. She mentioned that she cannot even check her old emails because they were set to self-destruct. That is a level of corporate secrecy that usually implies a massive IP.
Considering BioShock 4 (or whatever Cloud Chamber is calling it) has been reportedly stuck in development hell for years, it makes perfect sense that work she did in 2021 might still be under wraps. If she was recording lines and doing mocap four years ago, the narrative foundation of this game might have been finished a long time ago.
The Villain's Sidekick
The idea of a telekinetic sidekick to the main antagonist fits the series' DNA perfectly. We have seen similar dynamics in previous games, and it gives the player a tangible threat to fight before reaching the big bad.
I am taking this with a grain of salt because projects get cancelled all the time, especially at big publishers like 2K. But when an actor specifically mentions "2K," "telekinesis," and "throwing people against walls," it is hard not to get excited. Hopefully, her performance actually sees the light of day and does not end up in the same digital graveyard as the emails that hired her.
