A Former Rockstar Dev Just Leaked GTA VI Footage, and It’s Mostly Just a Guy Riding a Bike

It turns out that if you starve a fanbase for long enough, they will treat a grey-box animation of a man riding a bike like the Zapruder film.

Gta 6 leaked animations

We are officially down bad. It has been eons since the first trailer, and Rockstar has gone back into their turtle shell of silence. Naturally, the internet has decided to do the detective work for them.

A demo reel from a former Rockstar Games animator surfaced on Vimeo (Taken down, but the mirror is still live) recently, and amidst a bunch of old clips from Red Dead Redemption 2 and Max Payne 3, there were a few seconds of gold. We aren't looking at a heist or a shootout. We are looking at a bald, untextured test dummy renting a bicycle. And somehow, it is the most interesting thing I have seen all week.

The "LomBike" Revolution

The clip in question is short, but it confirms a feature that makes perfect sense for a game set in a parody of Miami. The character walks up to a docking station, grabs a yellow bike, and rides off.

The bike is branded "LomBike," which is classic Rockstar satire for the real-world LimeBike. This essentially confirms a new public transit layer for Vice City. You won't just be stealing cars; you'll be paying a few bucks to pedal down Ocean Drive like a tourist.

What is actually impressive here is the tech. The pedal physics, the "inverse kinematics" for you nerds, are buttery smooth. His feet actually stick to the pedals as they rotate. It is a small detail, but it shows the level of obsessive fidelity Rockstar is aiming for.

Parkour and Pickup Trucks

The reel also showed off a female character model, who is almost certainly a placeholder for Lucia, doing something we couldn't really do in GTA V.

She is in the bed of a pickup truck and seamlessly swings her legs over the side to hop out. In another cut, a character vaults from the roof of the truck down into the bed.

This suggests a much more dynamic movement system. In previous games, exiting a vehicle was usually a canned animation of opening a door. This looks like we might finally be able to clamber over vehicles and obstacles without our character looking like a stiff robot.

Don't Get Your Hopes Up Too High

Let's be real for a second. This is a portfolio piece from a single animator. It is a tech demo, not a gameplay trailer.

The rest of the video was just a showcase of old work, including a mime and some rdr2 cooking animations. The "leak" here is tiny. It is crumbs.

But when you are starving, crumbs taste like a feast. I hope the animator doesn't get sued into the stone age for this, because honestly, seeing a bald guy crash a bicycle is the most excitement the GTA community has had in months.
