GTA VI's Next Trailer Is Premiering on Netflix First
Grand Theft Auto VI's next big look at the game is premiering on Netflix, six hours before it hits YouTube.
Rockstar confirmed today that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres Thursday, August 27 at 3 p.m. ET, exclusively on Netflix. YouTube gets the same video at 9 p.m. ET that same night, on Rockstar's own channel and the official GTA VI site. It's the first time a publisher this size has debuted marketing footage for a game this size on a streaming service before putting it up for free.
Why Netflix
This isn't as random as it looks on the surface. Netflix already hosts the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition and Red Dead Redemption on its mobile gaming app, so there's an actual relationship here, not just a licensing check clearing. Less than 1 percent of Netflix's 221 million subscribers play games on the service daily, going by the last reported numbers, so a timed exclusive on the biggest gaming reveal of the year is a pretty efficient way to put its gaming push in front of people who'd otherwise never open that tab.
The Long Wait
The timing also explains some of the reaction. The last real look at GTA VI was the second trailer back in May 2025, over a year ago now, and Rockstar's said very little since beyond the delay to November. A six-hour head start for one platform's subscribers reads differently after a year of silence than it would after a normal marketing cycle.
Not a Paywall
A chunk of the reaction is treating this as Rockstar charging fans to watch a trailer, which isn't quite what's happening. Nobody's paying Rockstar anything extra. Netflix is almost certainly the one paying for the exclusive window, the same way it pays for early access to anything else on the service, and the video's free on YouTube that same night regardless. The actual gap people are annoyed about is six hours, not a price tag.
GTA VI is still on track for November 19, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S only, no PC date announced. Even the physical release only ships with a download code in the box, no disc. Whatever Rockstar shows off on the 27th, it's the last real update anyone's getting before that date actually arrives.
