Report: Disney Killed The 'KOTOR II' Switch DLC Because They Were Secretly Making A Full Remake

If you thought the saga of the Knights of the Old Republic remake was a mess, then get ready because it turns out we weren't just waiting for one remake. We were potentially waiting for two.

According to a bombshell report from journalist Stephen Totilo (via his newsletter Game File), Disney and Lucasfilm Games weren't just sitting around while the first KOTOR remake burned in development hell. As recently as March 2025, they were actively planning a full remake of KOTOR II: The Sith Lords.

And the kicker? It wasn't just a graphical upgrade. The plan was to include Obsidian's legendary cut content (the "Restored Content" that modders have been keeping alive for decades).

The Lawsuit That Spilled The Beans

This info didn't come from a flashy press release or a leaked trailer. It came from the messy legal battle over the Nintendo Switch port.

Remember when Aspyr promised the "Restored Content DLC" for the Switch version of KOTOR II and then cancelled it? That sparked a class-action lawsuit from a gamer named Malachi Mickelonis. Totilo dug into the court documents and found the smoking gun.

The reason the DLC was killed wasn't technical incompetence. It was killed because Disney's lawyers stepped in.

Back in 2022, an Aspyr executive named Michael Blair sent an email to the modders (known as Zbyl and Hassat Hunter) who were helping with the port. He told them, "We have spooked Disney legal and now they have put a new blocker in place."

That blocker existed because Disney was worried the $15 Switch DLC would interfere with their plans for the full remake. Essentially, they didn't want a cheap port stealing the thunder of a full-priced, AAA remake that would feature the same restored endings and quests.

The "Two Remakes" Reality

This paints a wild picture of the Star Wars gaming landscape.

For years, we have been doom-scrolling about the KOTOR 1 remake (originally by Aspyr, then Saber Interactive). Meanwhile, in the shadows, Disney was cooking up a sequel remake that sounded arguably more ambitious.

KOTOR II is darker, deeper, and famously unfinished. A full remake that actually finishes the game is the Holy Grail for Star Wars RPG fans. The internal project was reportedly codenamed "Juliet" and was being developed alongside the first remake.

The Desert Statue Connection

Naturally, the internet has taken this news and immediately connected it to the mysterious desert statue teasing The Game Awards.

Could the pile of skeletons and the "Old Republic" rumors be connected? Fans are pointing out that KOTOR II features Malachor V, a planet defined by mass death and gravity weapons.

However, let's be real. The statue looks like demons and bones. KOTOR is droids and lightsabers. Unless the remake is taking a drastic art style shift into dark fantasy horror, it is a stretch. But in an industry where Silent Hill gets remade by the Layers of Fear guys, anything is possible.

The Verdict

We don't know if this KOTOR II project is still alive or if it died on the vine like so many other Star Wars games. But the fact that it existed (and that Disney cared enough about it to block the Switch DLC) means they know the value of the IP.

We wanted one remake. We almost got two. Now we just have to wait and see if we get any.
