Marvel Rivals Patch Cleans Up Visual Noise and Rolls Out Fresh Outfits

Marvel Rivals Season 9 has been giving me some of my favorite matches all year, and this patch feels like it's finally clearing the smoke so I can actually enjoy them.

I've genuinely loved what Season 9 brought to the table. Jubilee has turned into a surprisingly aggressive strategist pick, and the Apocalypse-themed detective storyline gives this season a sense of weight that I wasn't expecting. But all of that came with a side effect I didn't see coming. The reworked team-up abilities made fights so much more frequent that my screen started turning into a blur of overlapping ultimates and combo effects. If you've spent a match squinting through flashbangs of light trying to figure out where your character even is, this update is speaking directly to you. And the best part is you don't have to wait around for it. NetEase is rolling out version 20260716 on July 16 at 9 AM UTC with zero server downtime, so you can hop right back into your matches the moment it lands.

The Van Dyne Couture Event and Store Drops

Fashion events in live service games can go either way for me, but this one actually has a reward worth logging in for. The Van Dyne Couture event runs from July 16 through August 13, and you can earn Magneto's Magnetic Vintage costume along with its bundle rewards completely free just by working through the event missions. That's the kind of thing that makes an event feel worth your time rather than just another currency sink. If you do want to spend a little, the premium track unlocks Adam Warlock's Tailored Perfection costume and Invisible Woman's Baxter Building Beauty outfit.

What's Hitting the Store

The Pop & Win track is bringing in Jeff the Dinosaur for Devil Dinosaur, and I'll admit there's something delightful about watching a T-Rex get reimagined as a land shark. That one runs from July 17 to August 14. Alongside it, you'll find Hawkeye's Bed-Stuy's Best bundle and Gambit's Dead Man's Hand bundle if you're looking to treat yourself.

For anyone who missed the Season 3 Battle Pass, Power of the Phoenix is making a limited return at the Battle Pass Nexus between July 16 and July 30. And if the Chrono-Rush event slipped past you before, it's reopening this weekend so you have another shot at finishing it up.

Visual Clutter Cleanup and Bug Fixes

This is the section I care about most, and I'd guess a lot of you will feel the same way. Once Season 9 made team-ups more frequent, every big team fight started to look like a rave happening inside a kaleidoscope. It was genuinely hard to track what was happening to your character in the middle of a chaotic push. NetEase is dialing back the visual effects across a long list of heroes so those clashes read as clean fights instead of light shows.

General Bug Fixes

  • Rogue Range Protocol: Fixed a bug in the Practice Range where turning off target movement still spawned moving bots.

  • Storm & Thor's Targeting Turbulence: Fixed a visual glitch where the camera animation for the Gods of Thunder team-up ability was unintentionally throwing off your aim.

  • Death of Apocalypse: Cleaned up a few minor bugs causing issues in the mini-game.

  • Xbox Trophies: Addressed a bug where the trophy overview progress was desynced from actual completion after unlocking an achievement.

Vanguard Visual Clarity Updates

Vanguard characters have had their visual effects dialed in to make sure their massive presence doesn't completely block the screen during coordinated moves. Cleanups have been applied to the following abilities:

  • Mr. & Mrs. X (Rogue and Gambit)

  • Explosive Entanglement (Rogue and Magneto)

  • Voltaic Union (Captain America and Thor)

  • Two-in-One (The Thing and Human Torch)

  • Gamma Maelstrom (Doctor Strange and Hulk)

  • Surf & Turf (Devil Dinosaur and Jeff the Land Shark)

Strategist Visual Clarity Updates

Strategists need to keep a clear eye on everyone's health bars, which gets a lot easier now that these specific combinations won't flood the arena with neon particles. Changes hit these combinations:

  • Vibrant Vitality (Loki and Mantis)

  • Planet X Pals (Rocket Raccoon and Groot)

  • Mammalian Bond (Rocket Raccoon and Squirrel Girl)

  • Oblivion Shroud (Cloak & Dagger and The Hood)

  • Favorable Odds (Gambit and Magneto)

Additionally, all of Jubilee's base abilities received a thorough cleaning to lower their overall visual noise.

Duelist Visual Clarity Updates

Duelists thrive on precision, so removing the extra screen glare from their offensive combos should make landing follow-up shots feel much smoother. Toned-down effects include:

  • Gods of Thunder (Storm and Thor)

  • Storming Ignition (Human Torch and Storm)

  • Moonlit Slash (Hawkeye and Cloak & Dagger)

  • Squirrel Missile (Squirrel Girl and Iron Man)

  • Light & Dark Darts (Psylocke and Cloak & Dagger)

  • Devilish Affair (Daredevil and Black Widow)

  • Hex Fireworks (Scarlet Witch and Jubilee)

  • Prehistoric Trap (Elsa Bloodstone and Devil Dinosaur)

Looking at that list, it's clear this patch is really about the team-up duos that make Marvel Rivals feel special in the first place. Pairs like Rocket Raccoon and Groot, or Cloak & Dagger linking up with Hawkeye and Psylocke, are exactly the kind of hero chemistry that makes this game feel like a co-op playground even inside competitive matches. Cleaning up the visual noise around those combos means you get to actually watch your favorite duos work together instead of losing them in a wall of light.

Between a free costume worth grabbing, a returning battle pass for anyone who missed it, and a patch that finally makes team fights readable again, this feels like a genuinely good week to jump back into Marvel Rivals.
