Marvel's Wolverine Has Gone Gold Ahead of Its September 15 PS5 Launch

Insomniac announced today that Marvel's Wolverine has gone gold, locking the game in for its September 15 release on PS5.

Marvel's Wolverine battles a cyborg enemy in an intense action scene with his adamantium claws extended.

What going gold means here

Going gold means the build submitted to Sony is the one shipping, day one patches aside. Insomniac made the announcement on Bluesky, its platform of choice these days rather than the X account it used for Spider-Man 2's gold post back in 2023.

Wolverine goes gold 25 days before its September 15 release. Spider-Man 2 had a full month between its gold announcement and its October 20, 2023 launch, five extra days of certification and patch time on a game with a lighter combat system to test.

The five-year version of this game

Insomniac announced Marvel's Wolverine in September 2021, before Spider-Man 2 even released. A ransomware attack on the studio leaked development assets publicly in December 2023, exposing story beats and gameplay footage more than two years before anyone was supposed to see them. The original director left partway through, with Marcus Smith and Mike Daly taking over by October 2024.

What ships September 15

The game is PS5 exclusive, single-player, and not open world, a deliberate break from the traversal-heavy formula Insomniac's built its recent reputation on. Liam McIntyre plays Logan, and Jean Grey is confirmed as part of the story following June's State of Play trailer. Standard Edition runs $69.99.
