Paralives Illness Guide: How to Cure the Digestive System Virus
Before you accidentally torch your new digital kitchen, you need to learn exactly how the food systems actually operate.
You spend hours building the perfect house and meticulously managing daily schedules, only for someone to walk through the front door carrying a miserable illness. As your characters go to work or attend school, they risk catching random ailments like the Digestive System Virus. Being sick completely tanks their productivity and creates a massive headache for you. I spent far too much time trying to figure out how to keep my healthy characters safe while treating the sick ones. If you want to get your household back on track, you need to understand how the infection spreads and exactly how to cure it.
Anatomy of an Infection
Before you try treating anyone, you need to know what you are actually dealing with. A standard illness like the Digestive System Virus puts your character out of commission for a full 12 hours.
During this window, their basic needs go completely haywire. Because their stomach is wrecked, the game actively ignores their hunger need since they feel too sick to eat. Meanwhile, their sleep and bathroom needs drain significantly faster than normal. You have to constantly micromanage their rest and bathroom trips just to keep their status bars in the green.
Worse yet, the virus is incredibly contagious. If your sick character interacts with a healthy roommate, the infection will absolutely spread. Keep the patient isolated until you can implement a proper cure.
Medical Treatment Options
You have a couple of different ways to tackle an illness, depending on how much time you want to spend playing nurse. Just a quick warning before you open the build menu: the medicine cabinets and medical furnishings you can place in your bathroom are completely decorative. They do absolutely nothing to cure a virus.
The Hospital Route
The absolute fastest way to fix the problem is to send them to a professional. Zoom out to the town map and look for the plus icon indicating a Health Center. You have two options available: a small Pharmacy located opposite the pizza place, or the larger Hospital located opposite the Community Center.
Click on either of these buildings while controlling your sick character and select the "Seek Care" prompt. This acts as an instant cure. You get a notification that they are healed, and all of their messed up needs immediately snap back to normal.
The Home Remedy Route
If you do not want to leave the house, you can cook a cure. However, this method comes with a very specific catch. You need a character in your household who specifically possesses the "Good at Taking Care of Others" Social Perk.
If you have someone with that trait, take control of them and click on the fridge to find the "Make chicken noodle soup" option. This recipe only yields a single portion, so you have to cook it multiple times if the infection already spread to other people. Feeding this soup to a sick character does not cure them instantly like the hospital does. It simply shaves some time off the 12 hour illness timer, helping them recover naturally a bit faster.
The Cheater's Way Out
If you refuse to deal with the illness mechanics entirely, you can simply delete the virus from your character's code.
Press CTRL+SHIFT+C on your keyboard to open the command console and type CLEARSTATUSEFFECTS. This instantly removes the virus. However, this command acts like a massive reset button for their entire brain. It wipes away the sickness, but it also completely deletes every single positive emotion they currently have, including buffs like Happy or Excited.
If you want a quick visual breakdown of the three treatment methods, I put together a cheat sheet below.
