All REANIMAL Mask Locations - Beneath The Mask Achievement Guide

You have to respect Tarsier Studios for making a game that actively hates you.

I don't just mean the horrific imagery or the constant tension, I mean the fact that REANIMAL has no chapter select. That is right. If you miss a single one of these 18 masks, you are starting a fresh save file from minute one. It is an old-school punishment that feels right at home in this damp, miserable world, but it is also a massive pain in the ass. I played through this nightmare so you can grab every collectible in one smooth run.

Here is where to find every mask for the Beneath The Mask trophy.

Chapter 1: The Mill

You are just getting your bearings here, but don't let the industrial gloom distract you from the loot.

Bird Head

You will run into this one shortly after your first stress-inducing encounter with The Sniffer in the factory area. Once you survive the giant fan and that massive roller door slams shut, look for a ladder. Climb it, head left through the door to get back outside, and follow the path to the very end. There is a hole in the wall waiting for you. The mask is inside the suitcase.

Worm Head

This one is hiding in the boiler room area. Once you have solved the puzzle to stop the boiler from spinning (and likely died a few times doing it), move into the room filled with lockers and cabinets. Ignore the rest and head straight for the cabinet directly opposite you. Crawl inside like the rat you are, and you will find the mask stashed under the sink.

Conch Head

When you reach the courtyard with the train tracks and the draisine, resist the urge to move forward immediately. Head to the back of the area on the right side. You are looking for a specific door without a light above it. It looks unassuming, but head inside and follow the corridor. You will find the mask on the floor near a bomb.

Chapter 2: The Village

Things get weirdly domestic here. Keep an eye out for hidden crawlspaces.

Pig Head

You will inevitably end up in a clothing store with some creepy mannequins. Before you smash the window to escape, go behind the counter on the left side. There is a small hole in the wall that is easy to miss. Crawl through it to find a secret room where the Pig Head is sitting on the floor.

Cone Head

After you get the crowbar (finally, a weapon) and leave the cinema, hang a right. Walk south past the bus stop until you see a boarded-up door. Use your shiny new crowbar to rip it open. Inside, you will see a crab hiding under a traffic cone. Smash the crab. Get the mask. Simple.

Chapter 3: The Fields

Deer Head

This one involves a bit of violence against inanimate objects. After you fight off the seagulls and climb up to the flower field, stick to the left side. You will spot a scarecrow just hanging out. Hit it with your weapon. A masked crab will jump out. Murder the crab to claim the Deer Head.

Chapter 4: The Orphanage

This chapter is long and the spider kids are nightmare fuel. Stay sharp.

Bucket Head

Inside the clock tower, specifically the room with the petrified spider children, there is a bookshelf on the right. Crouch and slip through it to find a hidden room. A crab will panic and run out into the main room. Chase it down, kill it, and loot the bucket off its corpse.

Crown Head

This is the only one that requires quick reflexes. In the dining hall, you will see a child sitting on a throne wearing a crown. The second you start fighting the other enemies, this "Spider King" will try to bolt through a hole behind the curtain. If he leaves, you lose the mask. Rush him immediately, take him out, and grab the Crown Head.

Plant Head

Later on, after the scene with the pig and the potato-picking section, you will be back in a main corridor with a broken floor. Head south and check the potatoes. One of them isn't a potato. It is a mask.

Chapter 6: The Water

I hope you like boats and mines.

Fish Head

After you activate the generator in the bunker and watch the cutscene, head down the ladder to the beach. Stick to the left side of the sand. You will find another crab carrying a mask. You know what to do.

Package Head

This one is a trek. After the cannon fight, take your boat toward the big ship but hug the right coast. You will find a narrow path blocked by mines. Use your harpoon to clear the way. Eventually, you will hit a beach filled with shipping containers. The mask is sitting inside one of the open crates.

Diving Helmets

These are unmissable. After the diving section and the whale eye sequence, a cutscene will play. Once it is over, you get two helmets automatically.

Chapter 7: The Trenches

Bush Head

Right after following the sheep, look for a poster on the left and a tiny metallic door on the right. Crawl through the door. Near the plane propeller, there is a suitcase. Crack it open to find the Bush Head before you drop down into the trench.

Mine Head

In the trench, you will pass three soldiers meeting a grim end. After the third one, check the right side for a gap you can squeeze through. The mask is lying there among some scattered bullets.

Rabbit Head

Keep moving until a soldier explodes (fun, right?). When you see a heavy soldier running above you, look for a gap on the left side. Squeeze through to find the Rabbit Head.

Amphibian Head

When you get to the hospital section, you will ride an elevator. Head through the right door into the treatment room. Before you leave this room, crawl under the table on the right. The mask is hidden in the adjacent room.

Chapter 8: The Courtyard

Gas Head

This is the final hurdle. In the courtyard with the hanged men, shoot the hanging soldier to make him drop a key. Use it on the right door. Inside, open the oven. A crab will jump out and sprint back to the courtyard. It is fast, so use a gun to shoot it down. Loot the corpse for the final mask.

That is all 18. If you followed this, you should have the achievement. If you missed one, well, enjoy playing Chapter 1 again.
