Report: A New Star Wars Game Is Coming, And The Title Ends With 'The Old Republic'

Don't do that. Don't give me hope. I have been hurt too many times by this franchise.

If you are a Star Wars gaming fan, there are three words that trigger an immediate dopamine response: The Old Republic. It is the era of Revan, Malak, and arguably the best storytelling in the entire expanded universe.

It is also an era defined by cancellation and development hell.

But according to reliable industry insider Kurakasis (via a Twitter thread), that is about to change. He claims a "big Star Wars game announcement" is coming very soon, and he dropped a massive hint about the name.

The title of the game ends with "The Old Republic."

KOTOR Remake Or Something New?

He clarified that this project has nothing to do with Star Wars: Eclipse (Quantic Dream's game that may or may not actually exist) or Zero Company.

This leaves us with one massive, bantha-sized possibility: The Knights of the Old Republic Remake.

We know the history here is messy. It was announced years ago by Aspyr. It looked rough. It got delayed indefinitely. It was reportedly moved to Saber Interactive. Sony scrubbed the trailers from the internet. We all assumed it was dead in a ditch somewhere on Tatooine.

But if Saber Interactive has actually managed to salvage the project, a re-reveal at The Game Awards next week would be the perfect time to do it.

The "High Republic" Twist

There is a small chance this could be a curveball. Disney has been pushing the "High Republic" era in books and shows recently. It is possible this is a new title like Star Wars: Tales of the Old Republic or a console port of the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic.

But Kurakasis called it a "big" announcement. A port of a 13-year-old MMO doesn't usually qualify as "big" in the leaker world.

If this is indeed the return of the KOTOR Remake, I am ready to hand over my wallet immediately. I don't care if it is a buggy mess. I just want to see Revan in 4K.

We will likely find out the truth on December 11th. Until then, keep your lightsabers handy and your expectations managed. We have been burned before.
