Toxic Commando Trophy & aCHIEVEMENT Guide: How to Get 100% Completion

Getting 100% completion in a horde shooter is always a marathon, and Saber Interactive made sure this one is going to test your sanity.

Saber Interactive put together a phenomenal engine for rendering thousands of rotting corpses on screen at once. They also put together an achievement list that demands you dedicate your actual soul to those corpses. Toxic Commando features 57 trophies. None of them are permanently missable, which is a blessing. The curse is that the sheer volume of grinding required to unlock them all borders on sadistic.

If you want this Platinum, you have to approach it methodically. Playing randomly will add dozens of unnecessary hours to your playtime. Here is my exact blueprint for getting in, getting the trophies, and getting out with your sanity intact.

Surviving the Difficulty Spike

You cannot just boot up the game and immediately start checking off the hardest requirements. You have to earn the right to suffer first.

The trophy list asks you to clear the entire campaign on Very Hard. The game intentionally locks you out of this difficulty until you beat the respective missions on Hard first (Except when selecting quick game, but, as you won’t be able to select a mission like that I honestly really wouldn’t recommend it). View it as mandatory training. Hard mode teaches you where the ammo crates spawn, how the horde pathing works, and which chokepoints are actually defensible.

When you finally step into Very Hard, the rules completely change. Enemies shred your health bar, the big mutants take agonizing amounts of sustained fire to drop, and you only get one down state before you are permanently sidelined. If you die completely, your team has to fight their way to a cocoon to rip you out.

Do not attempt the Hard let alone the Very Hard campaign with the AI bots. They are an absolute liability when things go wrong. Get three friends, establish a dedicated Healer, and prioritize finding Sludge Seeds in the environment. A Sludge Seed acts as a free auto revive. It is arguably the most valuable item on the map when you are attempting to clear the "Toxic Commando: Master" achievement.

The Endless Class Grind

Once you beat the campaign on Very Hard, the actual game begins. The "Sage" trophy requires you to reach the maximum level of 40 with all four character classes.

This is going to hurt. If you stuck to one class during your entire campaign run, you still have three completely naked classes to drag up to the level cap. Very Hard grants a massive 3x multiplier to your class experience. Playing on anything lower feels like you are walking backward. The trick is that you still get a decent chunk of experience even if you wipe and fail a mission.

The 100% Completion Ledger

All 57 achievements required to master the Swarm Engine.

Church of the Damned (Standard & Master) Complete "Church of the Damned" on any difficulty, and again on Very Hard.
Demon Bait (Standard & Master) Complete "Demon Bait" on any difficulty, and again on Very Hard.
Root of Evil (Standard & Master) Complete "Root of Evil" on any difficulty, and again on Very Hard.

Deliver Us (Standard & Master) Complete "Deliver Us" on any difficulty, and again on Very Hard.
The Pit (Standard & Master) Complete "The Pit" on any difficulty, and again on Very Hard.
Sage Reach maximum level (40) with every class. The longest grind in the game. Farm short missions on high difficulties for XP multipliers.
Who's Counting Anyway? Kill 53,601 enemies. Triggers naturally while working toward the Sage trophy.
Cold Cruelty Kill 5,000 enemies with melee weapons. Drop the difficulty to Story mode and just swing your weapon to speed this up safely.
Hot Cruelty Kill 1,000 enemies by blowing up fuel barrels or gas canisters. Bait hordes into tight spaces before shooting environmental explosives.
Improper Use Kill 100 enemies using gas canisters as melee weapons. The damage is awful, so only attempt this on the lowest possible difficulty setting.
Smell of Napalm Set 30 enemies on fire with a single Molotov cocktail. Best done during massive defense phases when the swarm bundles up at a gate.
Goon Derailer Kill a charging Goon with Combat Gear. Weaken it with bullets first, then drop an explosive in its path.
Slob Slayer Kill a Slob using a melee weapon. Unload a magazine into its chest to drop its health, then rush in for the final melee strike.
Elusive Avoid capture by a Snare after being its target. When the screen edges go dark, just sprint and vault over objects until it gives up.
Fast Reflexes Kill a Snare after it grabs a teammate but before it damages them. Requires you to stare at a teammate and react the second the animation starts.
Clear the Path Kill 100 sludge tendrils. Just shoot the plant lasers whenever you see them in the environment.
Ammo Saver Kill 300 enemies with Nuker explosions. Shoot the round exploding enemies when they are clustered near regular zombies.
Chill Out! Overheat a machine gun 10 times. Grab a stationary turret, hold the trigger down, and ignore the cooling mechanic.
Natural Born Healer Restore 10,000 HP to teammates using the Healing Aura. Drop your Healer class ability constantly during major fights.
Bull's-Eye Kill 15 enemies in a single shot with the Fireball ability. Wait for a choke point to clog with bodies before using the Strike class ability.
Shield Basher Kill 500 enemies using a Defender's barrier. Let the weak zombies walk directly into your deployed shield.
Air Raid Kill 1,000 enemies using an Operator's drone. Just keep the drone active as much as possible while farming missions.
Sharpshooter Deal 100,000 damage to enemies' weak spots. Aim for the glowing red pustules on the larger elite enemies.
That's a Good Deal! Kill 50 enemies with a single heavy weapon without switching. Grab a heavy weapon from a crate and empty the entire payload into a swarm.
Arms Baron Upgrade a weapon to its maximum level. Stick to one reliable primary weapon and this will pop naturally.
Weapon Connoisseur Kill at least one enemy with 19 primary or secondary weapons. Just cycle through your loadout options between missions.
Bloodhound Finish a mission while carrying the Sludge Seed. You should be picking these up anyway since they act as an auto revive.
Gold Digger Collect 10,000 Sludgite. Break the orange crystal trees whenever you see them in the environment.
Road Trip Travel 50 km total in any type of vehicle. Keep jumping in the driver's seat and this will happen passively.
Topped Off Refuel the car's gas tank 30 times. Grab a gas can and interact with the fuel cap on your ride.
Mechanic Restore 100,000 HP to vehicles. Walk up to the hood of a damaged vehicle and complete the repair minigame.
Vehicular Homicide Run over 1,000 enemies with a vehicle. Plow through crowds instead of driving around them.
Test Driver Drive each vehicle type at least once. Make sure to jump into the driver seat of every unique mission vehicle you find.
Can Opener Open a stash using the vehicle's winch. This is essentially unmissable during the early tutorial sections.
Ride Together, Die Together Complete any mission with 3 players from your in-game friend list. Avoid matchmaking and invite your actual friends.
Clean Run Complete "Root of Evil" without a sludge infection. Stay entirely inside the portable shield radius for the entire mission.
We Are Professionals Complete a campaign mission without any teammates getting incapacitated. Play a short mission on Story difficulty to guarantee it.
Untouchable Complete a mission on Hard or Very Hard without taking damage. Hide in the backline of a short mission and let your team do the work.
Hold the Door! Prevent enemies from damaging the church gates in "Church of the Damned." Drop the difficulty and hoard Spare Parts for turrets.
Is That All You Got? Complete a mission on Very Hard without getting incapacitated. Play conservatively, stay near the Healer, and let the tank pull aggro.
We're All Friends Here Complete a campaign mission without damaging your teammates. Check your fire and rely on precise shots rather than wild explosives.
