Toys for Bob's Secret Project Just Leaked, And It's Definitely An "Adventure"
Investment bankers are usually good at keeping secrets, mostly because they are boring.
But this time, they might have just outed one of the most anticipated comebacks in gaming.
We have known for a while that Toys for Bob (the studio behind Crash Bandicoot 4 and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy) went independent earlier this year. We also knew they struck a deal with Microsoft to publish their first game. But the actual content of that game has been a mystery.
Until now.
A sharp-eyed user spotted a listing on the website for Double Black Capital, an investment and consultancy firm. Under their list of clients, Toys for Bob is sitting right there. But the interesting part is the description next to it.
It explicitly lists the project as an "Adventure" game.
Why This Matters
"Adventure" is a very specific word in the gaming industry. If they were making Crash 5, you would expect to see "Platformer" or "Action." If they were making Call of Duty support content (God forbid), it would say "Shooter."
"Adventure" aligns perfectly with the open-hub exploration style of Spyro the Dragon.
This adds fuel to a fire that has been burning for months. Toys for Bob has been dropping purple hints all year. Their website redesign was purple. Their press emails were purple. Paul Yan, the studio head, even teased a "big, ambitious" project that would "inspire love and joy."
The Banjo-Kazooie Wildcard
There is a small, bear-shaped elephant in the room.
In previous interviews, the developers have openly expressed interest in reviving Banjo-Kazooie. Microsoft owns the IP, and an "Adventure" tag fits a collectathon just as well as it fits Spyro.
However, given the sheer volume of "purple" teasing and the fact that Spyro 4 has been rumored since the dawn of time, the smart money is on the dragon.
The Corporate Slip-Up
It is hilarious that this info came from an investment firm's portfolio page. These sites are usually meant to brag to other rich people about who they are working with, not to leak video game genres to Reddit.
Someone at Double Black Capital probably just updated the CSS and didn't realize they were dropping a tactical nuke on the Spyro subreddit.
We don't have a release date or an official title yet. But we now know the genre, and we know the funding is secured. So dust off your horns and get ready to collect some gems. The purple boy is almost certainly coming home.
