Conan Exiles Enhanced: Which Server Type is Actually Worth Your Time?

Choosing where you spawn in the Exiled Lands is the most important decision you will make before you even craft your first stone tool.

The move to Unreal Engine 5 with Conan Exiles Enhanced has unified the world, meaning you can finally hop between the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah without needing to start a fresh character. This visual overhaul is a gift, but it does not change the fact that the community can be absolutely brutal. If you pick the wrong server type, you might spend a week building a masterpiece only to have a clan of twenty people turn it into a parking lot while you are at work.

I have spent years navigating these servers, and I can tell you that understanding the settings before you commit is vital. Each server has its own multipliers for harvesting, damage, and clan limits. Before you start hunting for trophies, you should grab my Conan Exiles Enhanced achievement guide so you know what milestones to hit as you level up. But first, let’s make sure you aren't walking into a slaughterhouse by mistake.

The Lone Wolf and Tethered Survival

If you are the type who hates people or just wants to learn the mechanics without a stranger poking you with a spear, you have a few options that keep the experience controlled.

Single Player and Co-Op

This is the safest way to play, but it comes with a massive caveat that I need to warn you about. If you host a co-op game for a friend, they are "tethered" to your character. I have found this incredibly annoying because it means your friend cannot wander off to gather iron while you are busy building at the base. If they get too far away, the game literally yanks them back to your side like a cosmic leash. You can adjust the length of this tether, but it never truly disappears. It is a solid way to learn the ropes, but it is not the "true" open-world experience most people are looking for.

Online PvE

If you want to see other people’s cool buildings without the fear of them being burnt to the ground, Online PvE is your best bet. In Player versus Environment, your only threats are the sandstorms, the monsters, and your own poor planning. If you are a new player, I highly suggest using the connectivity menu to filter for "Official" servers. These are managed by Funcom and run without mods, providing the most stable baseline for your journey. It is a great way to experience the new UE5 lighting and character models without the stress of constant warfare.

Finding the Balance in Combat

Most of my time is spent in servers that allow some form of player conflict. Pure PvE can get a bit stale once you have conquered every dungeon, but pure PvP can feel like a full-time job.

Online PvE Conflict (PvE-C)

This is the "goldilocks" zone of Conan Exiles Enhanced. In PvE-C servers, you get a balanced experience where player-versus-player combat is usually restricted to specific time windows. More importantly, building damage is typically turned off. This means you can get into a scrap with another exile over a resource node without worrying about them following you home and leveling your house. I generally recommend this for solo players or small groups who want a bit of spice in their survival without the high-risk trauma of total war.

Online PvP

This is the deep end of the pool. In PvP, clan-based warfare is the name of the game. Before you jump in here, you need to understand that your base can be raided even when you are offline. I have seen entire fortresses vanish overnight because a rival clan decided they wanted the land. It is strategic, intense, and requires you to constantly maintain your weaponry and defenses. If you are playing solo, you are going to have a rough time here. This mode is designed for organized groups who revel in high-stakes raids and losing everything upon death.

Every Server Type Compared

Server Type Combat & Interaction Rules
Single Player / Co-Op Full control over settings. Co-op partners are tethered to your location.
Online PvE No player-to-player damage. Focus on dungeon clearing and building.
Online PvE-C PvP combat allowed during specific hours. Buildings are generally safe from player damage.
Online PvP Open warfare. Bases can be raided and loot can be stolen by others at any time.

Final Advice for New Exiles

If you are just starting out in the Enhanced edition, do not jump straight into a high-pop PvP server. You will get sent back to the lobby before you even find your first iron vein. I suggest starting on an Official PvE or PvE-C server to get used to the new UI and quality-of-life upgrades. Once you have a handle on the combat and have crafted some decent armor, then you can decide if you want to risk it all in the world of clan warfare.

The unified map system is a game-changer, so make sure you take the time to explore both regions. Just remember to check the server ping and player count before you commit, because nothing ruins a run like lag during a boss fight.
