Crimson Desert Guide: How To Nuke That Awful Dragon Cooldown

Getting handed the keys to a dragon only to be slapped with a real time premium mobile game timer is a genuinely baffling design choice, but I have the permanent workaround.

Reaching Chapter 11 in Crimson Desert feels like a massive victory lap. You have fought through the mud, leveled your gear, and finally unlocked Blackstar. Taking to the skies on a dragon completely changes how you interact with the map. The verticality is incredible and the speed makes ground travel feel obsolete. Then the honeymoon phase abruptly ends. You get 15 minutes of uninterrupted flight before the game forcibly grounds you.

I actually had to double check my user interface when I saw the timer. Blackstar requires a 50 minute cooldown before you can summon him again. That is not 50 in game minutes where you can just sleep at a camp to pass the time. That is 50 real life, watching the clock tick down minutes. It is a deeply cynical mechanic that artificially inflates travel time and severely punishes exploration.

Thankfully, you do not have to accept this fate. The game provides a backdoor solution hidden within the crafting and dispatch systems. By crafting a specific consumable called Narima's Horn, you can instantly wipe the entire cooldown and get right back into the air.

Securing The Blueprint First

You cannot just walk up to a crafting bench and start making Narima's Horn. You need the blueprint first, and acquiring it is arguably the most frustrating part of this entire process. You will need a fully functional camp and a massive stockpile of basic resources.

Your destination is the Timeworn Ruins, located just east of Tashkalp within the Crimson Desert region itself. Once you are there, you need to access the mission board and activate the Timeworn Ruins Excavation dispatch.

This is where the game demands a serious investment. You have to send 10 of your Comrades away for a staggering 72 in game hours. You also have to fund the entire expedition out of your own pocket.

Timeworn Ruins Excavation Costs

The material tax required to run the 72 hour blueprint dispatch mission.

Resource Type Quantity Required
Camp Weapons 11,000
Camp Stone 17,000
Camp Timber 17,000
Camp Food 24,000
Camp Funds 30,000 Coins

The Save Scumming Strategy

Here is the absolute worst part about this specific dispatch. The reward is entirely random. You can dump tens of thousands of resources into this excavation, wait three full in game days, and still not get the blueprint. Hiding the cure to a 50 minute real life timer behind a random number generator is a terrible design choice.

Do not play by those rules. I highly recommend creating a manual save a few hours before the dispatch mission is scheduled to complete. When the timer hits zero, check your Private Storage at the Howling Hills camp. If the blueprint for Narima's Horn is sitting there, save your game and celebrate. If it is empty, reload your manual save and let the timer finish again. Keep doing this until the blueprint drops. I refuse to let you waste that many camp funds on bad luck.

Gathering The Crafting Materials

Once the blueprint is safely in your inventory, you need to set up a sustainable pipeline for the three core ingredients. Narima's Horn is a consumable item. You have to craft a new one every single time you want to skip the dragon timer. This means you need an industrial supply of Dragon Claw Horns, Stalactite, and Feathers.

Farming Dragon Claw Horns

This is the primary bottleneck. You need three Dragon Claw Horns for every single Narima's Horn you intend to craft.

Head over to the Tinkerton Dig Site, which is located right near the "S" in the Delesyia map marker. You need to activate the Dragon Claw Horn Production dispatch mission. Keep in mind that this specific dispatch will not even appear on your list until you have unlocked the Efficient Gathering Research task from the village of Pororin.

This mission requires a specific designated comrade and takes 24 in game hours to complete.

Horn Production Costs

The daily upkeep to farm your primary crafting material.

Resource Type Quantity Required
Camp Weapons 1,200
Camp Stone 1,000
Camp Timber 3,200
Camp Food 14,000
Camp Funds 17,000 Coins

Every time this mission finishes, three Dragon Claw Horns will be deposited directly into your Private Storage at Howling Hill.

A quick warning before you open your inventory. You can actually consume a raw Dragon Claw Horn by itself to knock 10 minutes off your cooldown timer. Do not ever do this. It is a complete waste of resources. Save all three to craft the Narima's Horn, which wipes the entire 50 minute slate clean.

Mining Stalactite And Plucking Feathers

The last two ingredients are incredibly easy to source. You need one piece of Stalactite and two Feathers.

Stalactite is a basic mining material found deep underground. Take a trip south of Hernand and look for the Hernand Highlands Cave. Drop down the southern side of the cliff until you reach the bottom of the cavern. You will see several jagged, pointy rocks sticking out of the ground. Pull out your pickaxe and go to work until you secure what you need.

Feathers are practically scattered all over the game world. You can hunt wild birds and skin them, or you can purchase livestock for your farm back at the Howling Hill Camp and butcher them locally. If you have the spare cash and zero patience, a few of the grocers in Hernand sell feathers directly over the counter. I usually just buy them in bulk to save time.

Crafting The Horn And Breaking The Loop

Once you have your three Dragon Claw Horns, one Stalactite, and two Feathers, you are ready to finalize the process.

You need to track down a Witch. Any Witch in any region will do, but I usually default to the one located in the Witchwoods out of habit. Speak to her and navigate to the Craft Abyss Gear menu. Scroll all the way down to the Special Items tab, and you will see Narima's Horn waiting for you.

Keep it in your inventory until disaster strikes. The moment Blackstar runs out of stamina and dumps you on the ground, open your bags and use the horn. The 50 minute timer will vanish instantly, allowing you to summon your dragon and get right back into the sky where you belong.

It takes a lot of initial legwork to set up the dispatch missions and secure the blueprint. However, once your camp is fully operational and passively farming materials every 24 in game hours, you will never have to stare at that punishing timer again.
