Destiny 2 Guide: How To Upgrade Crafted Weapons To Tier 5

Bungie finally realized rendering my custom god rolls useless was a terrible idea.

The Edge of Fate update completely ruined how my inventory functioned. That patch essentially sunset every crafted weapon I owned by restricting Deepsight usage, leaving my favorite custom builds to gather dust in my vault. Thankfully, the Monument of Triumph update serves as a massive apology. The developers brought craftable guns roaring back into the meta by introducing a brand new upgrade path. You can now push your forgotten relics all the way to Tier 5 to make them just as lethal as the newest endgame drops.

Triggering The Upgrade Sequence

Before you waste an hour flying to different social spaces trying to find a new vendor, you need to know that this entire process happens directly inside your own inventory menus.

Digging Through The Vault

You need to open your character screen and inspect your weapon stash. If your vault is a total disaster area and you cannot remember which guns you actually built yourself, just look for the red Deepsight square sitting in the bottom right corner of the item icon.

Once you inspect a valid weapon, look directly to the right side of the Weapon Mods section. You will spot a brand new empty socket waiting for you. Clicking this slot initializes the tier progression sequence.

Funding Your Arsenal

You can manually bump the weapon from its baseline Tier 1 status all the way up to Tier 5. Before you panic about your material reserves, you should know exactly how the economy for this new system operates.

Weapon Category Tier 5 Upgrade Cost
Previously Crafted Weapons Completely Free
Non-Craftable & Adept Raid Weapons Glimmer, Ascendant Alloys, and Enhancement Prisms

The fact that pushing a previously crafted weapon to maximum power costs absolutely nothing is a huge relief. You can also apply this exact same tier system to Adept Raid weapons and standard non-craftable loot, but it will absolutely drain your wallet. You will burn through your Glimmer, Ascendant Alloys, and Enhancement Prisms very quickly if you try to upgrade every random drop you find. If you need a reliable way to farm those high end materials to fund your non-crafted upgrades, you can check my Destiny 2 Distortions quest strange signal guide for a solid endgame loop.

Securing Your Enhanced Traits

Hitting Tier 5 in your inventory menu is only half the battle. Upgrading the socket does not automatically inject the stat boosts into your gun. You have to take a road trip to actually claim your newfound power.

Take your newly upgraded Tier 5 weapon and fly directly to the Enclave. Walk up to the relic and open the reshaping menu. The game now allows you to slot Enhanced Traits into every single perk column on that specific gun. You also gain full access to enhanced versions of your standard Weapon Mods.

These enhanced variants are essentially twice as effective as their standard baseline counterparts. The difference in a tough firefight is incredibly noticeable, especially if you pair these souped up guns with the crazy new synergies listed in my Destiny 2 Monument of Light all armor set bonuses breakdown. Before you scrap any old red border weapons for vault space, take them down to the Enclave to see what kind of monster you can build.
