Holy Duck: Escape From Duckov Hits 300k Concurrent Players, Still "Overwhelmingly Positive"
Well, shit. The duck game isn't just a fluke, it's a phenomenon.
Remember when Escape From Duckov hit half a million sales? Then a million players? I guess that wasn't the peak, because today, the little indie shooter that could just smashed through 300,000 concurrent players on Steam. Three hundred thousand. All playing a game about looting ducks at the same time.
The Quack Heard 'Round the World
That's a massive number for any game, let alone an indie title that came out of nowhere. According to SteamDB charts, the concurrent player count (CCU) has been climbing steadily pretty much every day since launch. Hitting 300k puts it in some seriously elite company.
Defying the Review Bomb Curve
But here's the really impressive part. Usually, when a game explodes like this, the review score takes a nosedive. The bigger the audience, the more likely you are to attract haters, nitpickers, and people who just don't get it.
Not Duckov. Somehow, despite the massive influx of players, the game has maintained its "Overwhelmingly Positive" review score, at least among English reviews. That's insane. It suggests the core loop is just that damn fun and addictive, and the initial positive buzz wasn't just hype.
Why the Duck Is It So Popular?
It's hard to pinpoint exactly why Duckov has captured lightning in a bottle, but it's got a killer combo. The premise is absurd but fun, the loot-extract loop is solid, it's got co-op, and the modding scene is already taking off. Plus, it's cheap.
Whatever the reason, 300k concurrent players don't lie. TeamSoda has a monster hit on their hands, and it doesn't look like it's slowing down anytime soon. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some achievements to grind. Quack quack.
