Fortnite Shattered Event: How to Snag the Dark Voyager Sidekick for Free
Epic is practically giving away premium pets right now, but you are going to need a plus-one to actually get this one.
The Dark Voyager has cemented himself as a massive piece of the ongoing Fortnite storyline. Naturally, Epic is celebrating the end of Chapter 7 Season 2 by handing out some themed loot. Sidekicks usually cost a hefty chunk of V-Bucks in the Item Shop, so getting a flaming, floating pet to follow you around Battle Royale for absolutely nothing is a solid deal.
You just have to show up to the Shattered live event. Oh, and you cannot show up alone.
The Shattered Live Event Details
Before you worry about your locker, you need to mark your calendar. The Shattered live event kicks off on June 5, 2026, at 7 PM ET. You will want to be early because the playlist doors actually open at 6:20 PM ET.
Once the event wraps up, the servers will immediately crash into downtime to prep for Chapter 7 Season 3. You will not see your new items right away. They will be waiting for you the first time you boot up the brand new season.

How to Unlock the Freebies
Here is where the friction usually kicks in. Epic split the rewards based on how you queue up. If you log in and watch the world end by yourself, you only get half the loot.
To get the Sidekick, you have to launch the game, select the Shattered playlist, and invite at least one person from your friends list to your party. Once they join, ready up and watch the chaos unfold together.
What If You Do Not Have a Duo?
I know how it goes. Sometimes your regular squad is busy, or nobody is online when the 7 PM ET window hits. If you queue solo, you miss out on the pet entirely, and Epic has not confirmed if the Dark Voyager Sidekick will ever hit the Item Shop later.
If your friends list is looking like a ghost town, you have a couple of easy workarounds. First, you can hit up the community. Drop a comment here or jump onto the r/FortNiteBR subreddit to find someone in the exact same boat who just needs a warm body in their lobby.
If you don’t feel like talking to strangers, just fake it. Create a brand new alternate account on your phone or a secondary console. Add your main account as a friend, invite your own burner account to the lobby, and start the event. The game registers it as a valid duo (even if your second player is just a phone sitting on your coffee table).
