The Heartopia Animal Guide: Where To Find Every Hungry Critter And What To Feed Them

If you want a pet in this game, you have to earn it. And by "earn it," I mean running around the map looking for hidden wooden troughs like a glorified delivery driver.

Heartopia is populated by eight types of wild animals. They are adorable, they add life to the world, and they completely ignore you unless you feed them. If you want to raise your relationship levels, which eventually lets you pet them and get cool interactions, you need to find their specific feeding spots. The game, in its infinite wisdom, doesn't mark these on your map until you discover them yourself. Because I hate wandering aimlessly, I tracked them all down for you.

The Trough Hunt

Finding these feeding spots is a pain. They are usually tucked away behind rocks or on random hills. Once you find one, it stays on your map, but the initial search is the worst part.

Here is exactly where you need to go for each species.

The Easy Ones

The Bunnies: Go to Plot 2. Walk towards the town. The trough is just off the main path. It is hard to miss unless you are blind. The Capybaras: Everyone loves them. You find their trough near the Fluorite Mine area. Look for a pile of stones at the base of the hill opposite the first mining node. The Sea Otters: Head to the Harbor. Look for the blue boat-style seating area. There is a rock nearby with a trough on top of it.

The Annoying Ones

The Alpacas: Go to the southern part of the Flower Fields. Look for the giant yellow duck (you can't miss it). The trough is on the hill leading down to the beach puzzle area. The Pandas: Go to the Forest Jump Puzzle area where Cassie hangs out. From the stairs leading to her, turn 90 degrees right. There is a pile of bamboo. That is the spot. The Ferrets: Go to the northernmost Windmill. Turn right twice at the top of the hill. Look for a tree stump near some benches.

The Menu

You can't just throw trash at these animals and expect them to love you. They have specific tastes. If you feed them their favorite food, your relationship levels up faster. If you feed them weeds, they will probably hate you.

What About Pets?

Feeding wild animals is cool, but eventually, you want one in your house.

Once you hit Development Guild Level 12, you unlock the ability to adopt Cats. Dogs follow shortly after, but you need to unlock Cats first because apparently, this game plays favorites.

When you adopt, check the traits. Some pets are "shy" or "sensitive," which sounds cute until you realize it makes them annoying to level up. If you want my advice (and you do), get an Orange Cat or a Golden Retriever. Why? Because they have a chance to bring you Gold Bags. Yes, the animals will pay rent. That is the kind of passive income I can get behind.

Got a hot take on this? I know you do. Head over to r/neonlightsmedia to discuss it.
