The Ultimate Heartopia Fishing Guide: How To Catch Every Slippery Bastard In The Game

I honestly believe that game developers have a secret pact to include a fishing mechanic in every single title regardless of whether it fits or not.

I hated fishing in Stardew Valley and I hate it here. But I am also a pragmatist. In Heartopia, you start off broke and hungry. Fishing is the quickest way to fix both of those problems. So I spent the last twenty hours staring at virtual water ripples until my eyes bled just so I could tell you exactly where the expensive stuff lives. If you want to fill that aquarium or cook the high-tier dishes that actually restore stamina, you need to stop catching minnows in the tutorial river and get serious.

The Mechanics Are Simple (And Annoying)

The game explains the basics but leaves out the nuance. You get a rod. You find water. You cast.

The trick is holding the input button to aim. Most people just tap it and drop the bobber at their feet like an idiot. Hold it down. Aim for the shadow. It speeds up the bite time significantly. Then comes the reeling. It is the classic tension mechanic. White line means you are safe. Red line means you are about to snap your rod and lose the fish. Do not be greedy. I lost a King Crab because I tried to brute force the last few meters. Let go of the button when it flashes red or you will be buying a replacement rod from Vanya and she charges a fortune.

Gear Up or Go Home

Speaking of Vanya, you need to visit her shop. You cannot catch the big boys with the starter twig they give you.

As you level up your fishing skill, you get points. Dump them all into Rod Maintenance first. There is nothing worse than your rod breaking in the middle of a "Rainbow" weather window. Once that is maxed, put points into Fish Quality. Higher stars equal more gold. It is simple math. Also, buy the Mermaid Perfume. I know it sounds like a scam product from a multilevel marketing scheme, but it actually works. It forces fish to spawn faster. When you are on a time limit for a specific weather event, time is money.

The Only Fish That Actually Matter

There are 94 fish in this game. I am not going to list the Common Carp or the Sardine. You will catch a thousand of those by accident. I am here to list the ones that pay the rent.

These are the rare catches. The ones that require specific weather or high levels. If you aren't hunting these, you are wasting your time.

THE TROPHY LIST

The rare stuff that requires level 7+ and actually sells for decent gold.

Fish Name Location The Catch (Time/Weather)
Blackspot Seabream Zephyr Sea 6 PM to Midnight. Requires Rain or Rainbow.
European Eel Old Sea Evening only. Rainbow weather is mandatory.
Giant Oarfish Deep Sea (Boat needed) Daytime. Any weather. It looks terrifying.
Blue Ero Crayfish Forest Lake Night time. Any weather.
Golden King Crab Sea Fishing All Day. Rainbow weather ONLY. This is the jackpot.
Bluefin Tuna Sea All Day. Level 9 fishing required. Good luck.
Shortfin Mako Shark Sea Fishing All Day. Level 10 required. The boss battle of fishing.

Chasing The Rainbow

You probably noticed the pattern in the table. The best stuff requires "Rainbow" weather.

This is random RNG garbage, but you have to play around it. Check the TV in your house for the forecast. If you see a Rainbow icon, drop whatever you are doing. I don't care if you are in the middle of a date or decorating your bedroom. Grab your rod and run to the ocean. These windows are short and the Golden King Crab pays better than any quest in the game.

Rent A Boat

Finally, a note on location. If it says "Sea Fishing" and you can't find it from the shore, you aren't crazy. You need to go to the Fishing Village and rent a boat to get to the deep water.

Do not try to catch a shark from the pier. It won't happen. You need to get out into the open water where the big shadows spawn. Now get out there and start grinding. Those loans aren't going to pay themselves.
