The Complete Hytale Resource Guide: Where To Find Every Ore, Hide, And Scrap

If you are running around the map blindly hoping to trip over some Adamantite, you are playing this game wrong.

Hytale’s world generation isn't random chaos. It follows strict rules. Certain ores only spawn at specific depths, specific leathers only drop from specific predators, and if you are looking for Shadoweave Scraps in the wrong biome, you will literally never find them. I got tired of guessing, so I compiled every single spawn location and drop source into one place. Here is exactly where you need to go to get the gear you want.

Part 1: Ores & Ingots

Mining is simple until you hit the mid-game. Copper and Iron are everywhere. However, once you need Thorium or Adamantite, the game stops holding your hand. Here is the depth chart I worked out.

ORE LOCATIONS

If you aren't digging at the right layer, you are just wasting durability.

Ore Best Location / Depth My Take
Copper & Iron Emerald Grove (Deep Cave) & Howling Sands. They are everywhere. Iron is vital for Repair Kits, so don't stop mining it even when you have high-tier gear.
Thorium Howling Sands (Deep Cave/Magma). Look for the Desert Oasis. The caves under the oasis are packed with it. Avoid surface sand and look for rocky terrain instead.
Cobalt Whisperfrost Frontiers (Deep Cave). Also appears in Devastated Lands, but Whisperfrost is safer. Go deep as the quantity increases the lower you go.
Adamantite Devastated Lands (Lush Jungle Caverns). Rarest Ore. Find the "plains-like" subregion and dig down. If you hit a jungle cave instead of lava, you hit the jackpot. Watch out for dinosaurs though.
Silver & Gold Loot Chests / Whisperfrost & Devastated Lands (Magma). Not used for tools/armor. They are used for Magic Staffs and Workbench upgrades. Honestly, just loot chests for this because mining it is inefficient.
Mithril Creative Mode Only. Does not spawn naturally in the current Early Access build. Stop looking for it.

Part 2: Hides & Leather

You need leather for backpacks. That means you need to go hunting. The drop rules here are strict because specific animals drop specific hide tiers.

LEATHER SOURCE LIST

From rabbits to polar bears, here is who you need to skin.

Hide Tier Target Animals Strategy
Light Hide Rabbits, Stags, Sheep, Pigs, Camels, Rats. Emerald Grove is the spot. Just wipe out the local wildlife. Only adults drop hide.
Medium Hide Wolves, Tigers, Leopards, Sand Lizards, Hyenas. Update 2 changed Cows, Boars, and Horses to drop this now. Farm the Emerald Grove for the passive mobs, or hit Howling Sands for Lizards.
Heavy Hide Grizzly Bears, Mosshorn, Crocodiles, Polar Bears, Emberwulfs. Farm Mosshorns in Emerald Grove (they are passive). Alternatively, hit the ice shelves in Whisperfrost for easy-to-spot Polar Bears.
Storm Hide Unreleased. Wait for the Tier 4 zone update.

Part 3: Scraps (Undead Drops)

Scraps are used for workbench upgrades and specific gear sets. You get these by killing the Undead.

  • Linen Scraps: Dropped by skeletons/undead in Emerald Grove and Howling Sands.

    • Pro Tip: Farm the "Mage Tower" in the Windrider Valley event for massive drops.

  • Shadoweave Scraps: This is the hard one. Only dropped by Outlanders in the Whisperfrost Frontiers. Look for the fortresses. Be careful because Outlanders hit hard.

  • Cindercloth Scraps: Dropped by Burnt/Incandescent Skeletons in the Devastated Lands. They are everywhere on the surface so you can't miss them.

  • Stormsilk Scraps: Currently unobtainable in survival.

Part 4: Essences & Misc Resources

The rare stuff. You need these for high-level magic and final workbench upgrades.

RARE MATERIALS

The stuff you can't just dig up.

Item Source Notes
Essence of Ice Frost Skeletons (Whisperfrost). Important: Outlanders do NOT drop this. Only skeletons, Frost Snails, and Yetis do.
Essence of Fire Burnt Skeletons (Devastated Lands). Common drop from almost any mob in the fire biome.
Essence of Void Voidspawn (Night Only). Look for green glowing eyes at night. Trigger the Dread Wade event to spawn dozens of them.
Voidheart Rare Voidspawn Drop. Required for the final Backpack upgrade. Use the Ancient Gateway event to farm this efficiently.
Azure Logs & Kelp Blue Biomes & Desert Oasis. Check the map for blue zones for logs. Check the Howling Sands Oasis ponds for the Kelp (needed for Teleporters).
Sturdy Chitin Snapping Turtles / Scarak. Walk along the desert coastline for turtles. Or find a Scarak nest in the Tar Pits if you are brave.

Final Thoughts

This list should save you a few hours of pointless wandering. The key takeaway here is to target specific biomes for specific tiers of loot. Don't go to Whisperfrost expecting Medium Hides and don't dig in the desert expecting Adamantite. Use the data, get your gear, and stop wasting your time on bad RNG. Now go craft something useful, I have an appointment with a few grizzly bears to get some more Heavy Hide…
