Marvel Cosmic Invasion Guide: How To Unlock Venom, Silver Surfer, Phyla-vell And Phoenix

Starting with Spider-Man is fun, but we all know you bought this game to play as a symbiote monster or a shiny guy on a surfboard.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion gives you a generous starting roster of 11 heroes, but the four heavy hitters are locked behind the campaign progression. The game doesn't explicitly tell you when they show up, so you might be wondering how long you have to grind before you can summon Galactus' former herald.

Here is the breakdown of the secret characters and the specific missions you need to crush to get them.

The Secret Four

You don't need to do anything fancy like finding hidden collectibles. You just need to beat specific stages.

THE UNLOCKABLE ROSTER

When you get them and why you should play them.

CHARACTER UNLOCK REQUIREMENT MY TAKE
Phoenix (Jean Grey) Complete Mission 7: Blue Area of the Moon. Glass cannon. Huge screen-clearing ultimate, but dies if you look at her wrong.
Venom Complete Mission 9: Destromundo. The Tank. Use his tendrils to group enemies up for easy combos. Essential for co-op.
Phyla-Vell Complete Mission 11: Hala. Technical fighter with energy swords. Faster than Cap, harder hitting than Spidey.
Silver Surfer Complete Mission 13/14: Fort Galactus. S-Tier. He hovers over ground hazards. His beam melts bosses. He is broken.

How To Catch Up Fast

The only downside to unlocking these characters late in the game is that they start at Level 1.

Taking a Level 1 Silver Surfer into the final mission against Annihilus is a recipe for disaster. Before you main them, take them back to the early levels. Or, if you want to skip the grind entirely, use my XP Exploit Guide to boost them to Level 10 in about five minutes.

Once you have them leveled up, head over to the Cosmic Matrix to grab their alternate color palettes (Silver Surfer has a great one at slot #69).

Go save the universe. Or just surf on it. It’s your call.
