Marvel Rivals Season 9 Guide: Solving the Death of Psylocke

Finding a dead mutant in a watercolor universe is bad enough, but placing the wrong clue in a text box with zero feedback will actually make you want to scream.

A Marvel Rivals menu graphic for the "Death of Apocalypse" storyline, featuring a central Egyptian-style sarcophagus and comic-style panels depicting the deaths of Wolverine, Psylocke, and Gambit.

The Death of Apocalypse event in Marvel Rivals Season 9 is turning into a full-blown serial killer investigation. Someone put Apocalypse in the ground, and it turns out Wolverine, Psylocke, and Gambit all caught a stray bullet along the way. It fits perfectly into the massive content drop I covered in my Season 9 roadmap guide, trading standard combat challenges for a literal murder mystery. The newest case asks you to figure out exactly what happened to Psylocke.

The problem is that the puzzle mechanics are infuriating. You have to gather clues and drop them into a fill-in-the-blank crime report. If you mess up a single word, the game gladly tells you that your answer is wrong. What it outright refuses to do is tell you exactly which word is out of place.

Gathering the Crime Scene Clues

Before you can even try to fill in the blanks, you need to extract the keywords from the new gallery card. If you already knocked out the Death of Wolverine solution, you know exactly how tedious this part can get.

Open up the Events menu, click on the Death of Apocalypse banner, and select the Death of Psylocke mystery. You'll see a gallery card covered in little sparkles. Click every single sparkle to eavesdrop on conversations between heroes like Emma Frost and Daredevil. You have to read through the dialogue to register the keywords. Take your time here. If you think you clicked everything but the investigation text still won't let you fill in the blanks, go back and click the sparkles again. Sometimes a conversation requires a few extra taps before the game acknowledges that you actually collected the clue.

The Exact Death of Psylocke Solution

Before you waste twenty minutes swapping words around and questioning your own reading comprehension, I put the exact sequence you need right here. You have to fill in ten text blanks and select three specific targets for the Persons of Interest section.

The Story Reveal and Your Reward

Once you plug in the correct words, the game finally reveals the truth. Loki is the one who murdered Psylocke.

The God of Mischief decided he wanted to rewrite destiny, and he needed a very specific ingredient to pull it off. Since Psylocke comes from a unique watercolor universe, Loki assumed her blood was the missing piece of his cosmic puzzle. He trapped her in an illusion, extracted what he needed, and immediately framed Magik for the crime to cover his tracks.

The punchline to all of this is that Loki's grand plan completely failed. Psylocke's blood didn't let him rewrite destiny at all. It only gave him the power to redraw fragments of lost worlds. He killed her for absolutely nothing, adding another massive layer of complications to the overarching mystery of who killed Apocalypse.

For putting up with the clunky puzzle interface and closing the case, you receive "The Butterfly Trap (The Mystery of Thebes #4)" gallery card for your collection. Now you just have to wait for the Gambit investigation to unlock, so grab your rewards and get back into the queue.
