Marvel Rivals Season 8.5 Patch Notes Deliver Total Meta Chaos
NetEase is about to completely upend your tier lists with a massive wave of balance changes hitting the live servers.
The Season 8.5 patch lands on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 9 AM UTC, and it is clear the development team wanted to flatten some overperforming heroes. If you have been relying on specific high-tier picks to carry you through competitive matches, you are going to need a backup plan. NetEase is fundamentally shifting how the frontlines and flank routes operate, meaning the game is going to feel entirely different this weekend.
The New Blood And Combined Fury
Before you even look at the balance numbers, you need to prepare for the arrival of Cyclops. The iconic X-Men leader is officially joining the roster, and his kit is poised to shake up how teams coordinate their damage.
He is also launching with a brand-new Team-Up ability called Blast Slash, which pairs him directly with Wolverine. When you run both of them together, Cyclops can use his optic blasts to supercharge Wolverine's claws. This gives Logan a flat increase to his baseline melee damage and grants him an entirely new claw spin attack. If you see an aggressive Logan coming at you after Friday, do not assume you can take him in a straight duel.
Shifting The Frontlines
The tank meta is getting a massive reset as the developers look to chip away at the most annoying brawlers while giving some much-needed utility back to the rest of the Vanguard class.
Angela, Magneto, and Rogue Get Sturdy
Angela: Your mobility and overall survivability are getting a nice bump. The cooldown on Assassin's Charge is dropping from six seconds down to four. When you are in Shielded Stance, the shield value climbs from 300 to 350, the recovery rate after you cancel it hits 60 per second, and the annoying lockout interval between shield uses drops to a single second.
Magneto: The threat level on your ultimate, Meteor M, is much higher now. The maximum duration is up to five seconds, and a fully charged throw now deals 350 damage instead of 300.
Rogue: Your Fatal Attraction cooldown drops down to 12 seconds. Even better, your Defensive Stance drains less energy at 50 per second, while your absorbed damage energy conversion ratio gets a huge jump from 35% to 55%.
Extinguishing The Devil Dinosaur
If you have been terrorizing lobbies with the giant lizard, your free ride is over. Impact Beam no longer has a knock-down effect, which completely removes your easiest crowd control setup. On top of that, the Buddy Barrier cooldown goes up to 12 seconds, and the damage per second on your Bleed effect is cut exactly in half down to 1.5%.
A Disastrous Day For Duelists
The damage-focused roster took the heaviest hits in this update. Several dominant flankers are getting their wings clipped, meaning you will have to work significantly harder to confirm your solo eliminations.
Black Cat's Luck Runs Out
Black Cat is getting targeted from almost every angle to curb her absurd survivability and damage output. Cat's Cradle damage drops to 40, and it loses a charge completely, moving to an eight-second cooldown. Phantom Pursuit damage is down to 70. The Fortune cost for your relics, including Chernobog's Crystal, Ring of Zona, and Mento-Fish, jumps up to 300. Faltine Flame Orb also climbs to 300 Fortune and completely loses the ability to reveal anyone hiding behind walls or objects.
Her Calling Card ultimate targeting distance drops to 40 meters, and securing an elimination now just adds three seconds to the timer instead of completely refreshing the duration. The second hit of the ultimate gets its percentage damage removed, capping the total damage of both swings at 100 whether your target has 250 health or 600 health. To make things worse, the Fortune gained from the attack is reduced to 200.
Trimming The Flankers
Daredevil: Your scouting utility is taking a massive hit. Radar Sense has its detection range chopped down to 40 meters, Sonic Pursuit targeting is down to 12 meters, and the duration of your "Objection!" stun is trimmed to 1.2 seconds.
Moon Knight: Crescent Dart damage falls to 23, and Moon Blade drops to 70. The damage attenuation per bounce is adjusted to 70%, which means your bouncing attacks are going to do noticeably less damage when clumping targets together.
Phoenix: The healing over time from detonating Sparks is cut in half down to five per second. Your Cosmic Flames damage falloff at 30 meters drops to 65%, meaning it now takes six hits to knock out a 250 health target at max range instead of five.
Star-Lord: Your Element Guns damage falloff at 25 meters drops to 50%, though thankfully this change does not impact your ultimate.
Small Victories For Blade, Elsa, and Human Torch
Blade: The Unstoppable duration from Scarlet Shroud jumps to a full second. While you are using sword stance, Daywalker Dash gets its initial hit damage bumped to 30, and the spin damage increases to 10, bringing the total damage up to 70.
Elsa Bloodstone: The damage requirement to upgrade your Inherited Instinct passive drops to 1111, giving you a faster path to your baseline scaling.
Human Torch: Flaming Meteor has its cooldown cut to 15 seconds, and Plasma Body takes only eight seconds to energize a single charge.
Namor: Hitting targets with the Trident of Neptune now shaves 1.3 seconds off your Aquatic Dominion cooldown.
Reshuffling The Strategists
Support utility is seeing a major shakeup across the board. The developers are pulling back on some of the most oppressive ultimate abilities while offering a few localized healing boosts to help you keep your frontline alive.
Healing Boosts For The Support Roster
Adam Warlock: Hitting your targets with Cosmic Cluster now reduces your Avatar Life Stream charge time by 0.6 seconds.
Cloak & Dagger: Landing a direct hit with Lightforce Dagger on an ally drops the single-target healing to 12, but the spell field area healing climbs to 20. Your Veil of Lightforce healing boost is also up to 20%.
Deadpool: Your gun form Bouncing Bobblehead continuous field healing is up to 50 per second for the standard version, and 55 per second when upgraded.
Utility Cuts For Gambit, Ultron, and White Fox
Gambit is losing some of his late-game wipe potential, as his Ragin' Royal Flush ultimate damage multiplier is down to 20% and the speed bonus drops to 30%. His Explosive Entanglement Team-Up with Rogue or Magneto is also taking a hit. Rogue's Hearts As One damage drops to 2%, and the field healing per attack is drastically reduced from 55 down to 25.
Ultron is facing strict limitations on his automated drone army. The maximum attach distance for Imperative: Patch is down to 30 meters, the Firewall cooldown goes up to 12 seconds, and the total energy cost for your Rage of Ultron ultimate is increased to 4300. Finally, White Fox is losing some crowd control reliability, as the radius for your Spectral Surge Charm and Invincibility field is shrunk down to 0.6 meters. You will need to be dead on with your positioning if you want to catch people in the field after the update goes live.
