Soulmask Fast Travel Guide - Stop Walking Everywhere Like A Peasant

Relying on your own two feet in this game is a fantastic way to waste half of your actual weekend.

Soulmask gameplay showing players riding large feathered bird mounts over a misty mountain landscape at dawn.

The sheer scale of the environment is intimidating, and the default movement speed leaves a lot to be desired. When you first wake up in the dirt, you have no choice but to sprint through the brush, constantly managing a highly restrictive stamina bar while hoping a jaguar does not jump out of the shadows. Running back and forth between your base and a mining node is agonizing. If you do not figure out how to bypass this walking simulator quickly, the gathering loops will burn you out completely.

Thankfully, you do not have to endure the marathon forever. The game provides a couple of highly effective transit methods, but it does not exactly hand them to you with a tutorial ribbon. You have to hijack ancient teleportation architecture and literally kidnap wildlife to get around. I have crossed these biomes enough times to know that doing it on foot is a rookie mistake. Let me walk you through the process of linking up the fast travel grid and securing your very first mount.

Activating The Mysterious Portals

Your ultimate goal for cross map transit is the portal network. You will occasionally stumble across massive, glowing stone structures called Mysterious Portals scattered throughout the different biomes.

Funding The Network

You cannot just walk up to a portal and instantly beam yourself across the continent. These ancient doorways require a toll. Interacting with a dormant portal consumes your hard earned Crystals. If you have been busy raiding ruins and figuring out how to increase your tribe limit, you likely have a few of these shiny rocks sitting in a chest back home. Grab them before you go exploring.

Linking The Nodes

Paying the crystal toll only activates that specific doorway. A portal needs a destination. You actually have to manually travel to a second biome and activate another Mysterious Portal there before the system becomes functional. Once you have two active nodes on the network, you can instantly snap between those two locations. It makes hauling heavy loads of ore vastly more manageable.

Securing Your First Mount

Portals are great for jumping between major regions, but you still have to navigate the local terrain. For that, you need an animal.

The Alpaca Heist

Your first ride is going to be an Alpaca. You do not tame them using some complex bonding ritual. You just steal them.

You can find Alpacas hanging around inside the various tribal camps scattered across the starting zones. When you spot one, just walk up, pick the animal up with your bare hands, and physically carry it all the way back to your base. It is ridiculous, but it works. Once you drop the Alpaca in your compound, tell it to follow you so it registers as your property.

Crafting The Saddle

An Alpaca will not let you ride it bareback. You have to craft a proper saddle. You will need an Armor Forging Table to put this together. If you are struggling to build the necessary workbenches, you might need to take a detour and learn how to get bronze, copper, and tin so your technology tree is fully up to speed.

Feeding The Engine

Mounts are not machines. If your Alpaca starts starving, it will literally just sit down in the dirt and refuse to move, usually right when you are running away from an angry mob.

Alpacas eat Corn. You need to keep a healthy stack of it in your inventory for long trips. The funny thing about this digestion process is that after your mount eats the Corn, it will occasionally process it and spit Corn Seeds back out for you. You can replant those seeds to sustain your feed supply. When you are back at your base, you will want to build a trough and use a Water Bucket tool to keep your animals hydrated. Just hit your interact button near the trough with the bucket equipped.

Traveling With An Entourage

You rarely travel alone in this game, especially if you are hunting down worship containers or looking for premium fresh meat. Bringing a squad of bodyguards complicates your transit logistics.

The Magic Of NPC Pathing

You might think you need to steal an Alpaca for every single member of your tribe. Thankfully, the developers took pity on us. Your followers do not need their own mounts.

When you hop on your Alpaca and take off sprinting, your deployed tribesmen will just magically teleport right behind you to keep up. It completely breaks the immersion, but it saves you hours of micromanaging animal pens. As a bonus, your mounts do not take damage during standard PvE combat encounters, so you do not have to worry about your Alpaca getting slaughtered while you are busy raiding a camp.

Portal Protocol With Animals

When you use the Mysterious Portals, you have to be careful with your mount. Do not stay seated in the saddle when you trigger the teleportation sequence.

You need to physically dismount the animal. Once your feet are on the ground, issue the follow command to your ride. When you step through the portal, the game will recognize that the animal is tethered to you, and it will pull the creature through the loading screen with you.

Upgrading Your Ride Later

The Alpaca is a fantastic starter vehicle, but it is definitely slow. Once you push deeper into the mid game, you will want to upgrade.

You can eventually track down and capture Panthers or Ostriches. Both of these options provide significantly higher movement speed, allowing you to cross the desert dunes in record time. Just keep your gear maintained. Flying across the map at high speeds usually means running face first into an ambush before you have time to react, so knowing how to repair weapons and buildings is mandatory to survive the road trips. And if you truly get sick of riding animals, you can always look into how to build boats and airships to leave the dirt paths behind entirely.
