StarRupture Map Guide: How To Stop Getting Lost In The Alien Wilderness

It is honestly baffling that a high-tech space suit doesn't come with a pre-installed GPS, but apparently, on Arcadia-7, you have to earn the right to know where you are.

I spent my first hour in StarRupture walking in circles because I assumed the "M" key was broken. It turns out the developers made the map a progression unlock, which is a cruel little joke for an open-world game. If you are tired of using landmarks to navigate like it's 1800, you need to start working for the corporations immediately. Specifically, you need to make friends with the Moon Energy Corporation, because they are the ones holding your navigation data hostage.

Kissing Up To Moon Energy Corp

You don't just find a map lying around in a crate. You have to buy it with your labor.

To unlock the map functionality, you need to reach Reputation Level 3 with the Moon Energy Corporation. This sounds like a grind, and it kind of is, but you can speed it up if you know what they want. You have two main ways to get their attention:

  1. The Industrial Way (Calcium): Set up a Calcium Ore extractor. Moon Energy loves Calcium. You can set up a commission at your Orbital Cargo Launcher to ship Calcium Ore into space. You get about 5 reputation points per ore, so you need to ship roughly 300 to 500 units to hit the mark. It takes time, but it is passive.

  2. The Fast Way (Data Points): If you are impatient like me, go exploring. You can dump Data Points into the Corporate Terminal to power-level the faction. You get these by analyzing Meteorite Cores or Ignitium at the Analysis Terminal. Dumping 1500 Data Points is usually faster than waiting for the slow conveyor belts to move rocks.

Once you hit Level 3, go to your Corporate Terminal, claim the reward, and suddenly the "M" key actually does something.

Clearing The Fog With Geo Scanners

Unlocking the map just gives you a blank slate. It only shows where you have physically walked, which isn't super helpful if you haven't gone anywhere yet. To see the rest of the world, you need Geo Scanners.

You will see these marked on your HUD as little antenna icons. When you find one, it is dormant. You have to walk up to it and activate it.

Defending The Antenna

Here is the catch. The moment you turn that scanner on, it makes a noise that every bug in a three-mile radius hates. You will trigger a "hold the line" event where waves of Vermin try to destroy the scanner (and you).

Watch out for the blue volatile Vermin. These little bastards explode into a toxic gas cloud that bypasses your shield and wrecks your health. Do not let them get close to the scanner or your face. Shoot them from a distance.

Once the scanning bar hits 100%, the antenna sends out a ping that clears the fog of war in a massive 350-meter radius, revealing resource nodes and points of interest. I recommend doing this immediately after unlocking the map so you can actually plan your next factory expansion without guessing where the resources are.

What To Do Next

Now that you can actually see where you are going, you are probably realizing just how many resources are out there waiting to be exploited.
