Subnautica 2 Guide: How to Find Troilite and Craft Mangalloy Ingots
Venturing into a glowing underwater canyon guarded by a giant squid is a terrifying but necessary step to upgrade your gear.
I can't let you avoid the Root Canyon forever. To push your Tadpole into the endgame depths, you need Troilite. This bright green ore is the backbone of Mangalloy Ingots and crucial upgrades like the Ultra High Capacity Air Tank. The game hides this resource deep in the ocean, specifically inside glowing yellow and green pools guarded by massive predators. The nodes also don't respawn naturally, making your first few chunks of ore incredibly valuable. Before you waste your supply on the wrong upgrades and permanently brick your progression, I mapped out the safest extraction route.
Prepping for the Root Canyon
Don't try to swim to this biome with your basic gear. You're dealing with extreme pressure and incredibly hostile wildlife.
The Required Loadout
You need a Tadpole vehicle equipped with at least a Depth Module Mk. 1. If you take an unupgraded submarine down to 400 meters, the water pressure will implode the hull. You also must bring your Sonic Resonator. The game calls the actual deposit nodes Mineralized Clinkers, and they're far too massive to break with your standard Survival Multitool.
The Collector Leviathan Threat
Before you drive blindly into the glowing pools, be aware of the Collector Leviathan. This massive squid patrols the area above the canyon, particularly between the Graveyard and Observatory biomes. If you swim too high in the water column while in Root Canyon, it'll spot your Tadpole and attack immediately. Stay as close to the ocean floor as possible to avoid drawing its attention.
Locating the Troilite Deposits
The actual biome is about 2,000 meters east of your starting Lifepod, but it's much easier to navigate using the Alien Ruins as your starting point.
The Angel Comb Route
Start at the Alien Ruins and head to the massive Angel Comb structure with the purple roots. From there, travel about 520 meters to the northeast and drop down to a depth of 400 meters. You'll start seeing a bright green and yellow glow illuminating the dark water. This is the Root Canyon metal farm area.
Safe Extraction
Once you spot the glowing pools, park your Tadpole in a safe crevice and swim out by hand. The smaller deep sea fish will attack you on sight outside your vehicle, but hugging the floor keeps you hidden from the leviathan above. Look for the bright green Mineralized Clinkers along the left side of the lower lake. There are typically three nodes on this bottom level and another four resting on a higher ledge near a second green lake. Hit them with your Sonic Resonator to collect the raw Troilite.
Crafting Mangalloy and Upgrades
Securing the raw ore is only half the battle. You've got to haul it back to your base and process it carefully.
The Golden Rule of Troilite
Because Troilite nodes don't respawn in the wild, your absolute first priority must be constructing your own metal farm base module. If you blow your initial harvest on an air tank upgrade, you'll eventually run out of ore entirely. Build the metal farm first so you can multiply your existing supply.
Processing and Blueprints
To create a Mangalloy Ingot, you need to use your base Processor machine. The recipe requires one Titanium Ingot, one piece of Atacamite, and one piece of Troilite. The machine takes exactly 30 seconds to spit out the finished alloy.
