007 First Light Guide: Surviving Damien's Saw Trap

Waking up on a marble slab with a giant saw inching toward your torso is not the ideal way to start a mission.

Towards the end of the "Time to Die" chapter, Bond finds himself in a very classic, very lethal spy movie predicament. Damien has you strapped down and is fully prepared to cut you directly in two for his own viewing pleasure. A timer appears, the saw blades spin up, and you are hit with a series of dialogue options. Before you panic and assume one wrong word will instantly send you to the grave, I am going to be totally honest with you. The specific choices you make here do not actually change the outcome.

The Illusion Of Choice

The game presents this sequence like a high stakes puzzle where you have to perfectly psychologically manipulate Damien to survive. In reality, you just need to keep your mouth moving.

The only way to actually fail this sequence and get sliced in half is by letting the dialogue timer run all the way out. As long as you press a button and say literally anything, you will successfully stall Damien. If you survived the 007 First Light Damien interrogation guide from the "Uninvited" chapter, you already know the best way to deal with this guy is to get under his skin and provoke him. Poking at his massive daddy issues works wonders to distract him from the spinning blades.

Every Dialogue Outcome Explained

Even though your choices will not alter the final result, the interactions are still incredibly fun to watch play out. If you are curious about what happens when you pick different responses, I have broken down every possible outcome below.

Dialogue Choice Damien's Reaction
Start running, Damien. Damien shuts off the trap to hear Bond tell him that his father is setting him up to take the fall. He assumes Bond is bluffing and turns the saw back on.
This is all your father's fault. Damien pauses the trap again. Bond tells him his father loves THEIA more than him. Knowing Bond is just provoking him, Damien reactivates the trap.
Don't do this! Bond offers to help Damien in a last ditch effort. Damien is completely unimpressed and quickly turns the trap back on.

A Little Help From Your Friends

No matter how effectively you roast his family dynamic, Damien eventually gets tired of talking. The trap will turn back on for good. Thankfully, the entire point of this conversation was just to buy time. Your continuous stalling gives Greenway exactly enough time to get into position. Just as things look incredibly grim for Bond, Greenway uses his sniper rifle to shoot the trap and disable it permanently. You live to see another day and the mission continues.
