Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Guide: How to Upgrade the Great Inagua Hideout

Taking over a beautiful Caribbean cove sounds like a dream until you realize you're the one who has to fund the entire local economy.

During the main quest line in Sequence 4, you finish the mission called This Old Cove and inherit a giant slice of paradise called Great Inagua. It starts as a ragtag collection of broken buildings and an empty mansion, but with enough cash, you can transform it into a bustling home base. Upgrading your hideout isn't just for cosmetics. It unlocks top-tier equipment upgrades, extra ship slots, and passive resource streams that make the rest of your campaign infinitely smoother. Before you go throwing your gold at every vendor on the beach, let me explain how the systems work so you can spend your coin wisely.

How to Manage Your Pirate Base

You can't just fix up the island from a single pause menu. The game forces you to split your landlord duties between your fancy manor house and the dirty beaches down below.

Upgrading the Manor

If you want to renovate the actual mansion, you have to physically walk into the large main building on the east side of the island. Head into the office tucked away on the northwest side and walk up to the giant desk. You'll see a cluttered table with a stack of maps that handles all your home improvements. Interacting with this spot lets you build structural additions like the Facade or the Guesthouse.

Restoring the Town Buildings

For the standard shops and town amenities, you have to go for a run. Head down to the Great Inagua docks and paths to find specific NPCs with square merchant icons hovering over their heads. Talk to them directly and hand over your reales to fix their storefronts. Once you successfully build a shop, that square icon gets a small arrow on your map, which tells you that further upgrade tiers are ready to purchase.

The Best Facilities to Build First

You shouldn't just buy whatever facility is cheapest. You need to invest your cash into services that actively help you survive the brutal naval gauntlets waiting for you out on the open sea.

The Harbourmaster

You absolutely need to put the Harbourmaster at the very top of your priority list. The Jackdaw is your lifeline, and keeping it prepared for battle is your main job. While you can visit a basic harbourmaster in Nassau early on, that guy only offers low-tier fixes. Unlocks for Tier II, Tier III, and ultimate ship upgrades are locked behind the three Harbourmaster levels in Great Inagua. Once you buy them here, those higher tier weapons and hull armor components become available at every single harbor across the Caribbean map. Trust me, you'll want a fully armored hull before you go hunting down the high-level fort locations scattered across the southern waters.

The General Store and Facade

Once your ship is sorted out, start dumping your funds into the General Store and your manor house. High-level gear crafting requires rare land and ocean wildlife skins. Instead of wasting hours tracking down random animals in the jungle, a maxed-out store lets you just buy everything you need directly.

Meanwhile, purchasing the Facade upgrade for your manor unlocks the Protection Money Box. This handy feature generates passive reales every single minute you spend away from the island. It also opens up a new berth for your fleet menu, giving you another passive income stream while you're busy focusing on the main story events.
