DICE Finally Admits Battlefield 6's Grind Was Insane, Slashes Challenges

They're also fixing the blinding light, janky movement, and broken weapon accuracy. You know, the small stuff.

A promotional roadmap for the battlefield6 Season 1 Preview, showing a red-tinted masked soldier and featuring images of new maps, including the oil-field Blackwall Fields and the snowy Ice Lock Empire State event map.

DICE dropped another "community update" today, thanking us for "shaping Battlefield 6 together". That's corporate-speak for "we know a bunch of stuff is broken, and we're scrambling to fix it before Season 1 drops on October 28".

And buried in the PR is the one thing I've been screaming about: they're finally admitting the progression grind was designed by a psychopath.

No, That's Not a Typo: 150 Kills to 5

I had to read this twice. They're adjusting the insane criteria for challenges because players (rightfully) complained they were confusing and took way too long.

The example they give is fucking wild. The "Deadeye 2" weapon assignment is changing "Get headshot kills over 200m with Sniper Rifles" from 150 kills down to 5. One hundred and fifty! Down to five. That's not a "tweak," that's an apology. They're also cutting an Engineer challenge from repairing 6000 (yes, six thousand) points down to 1000.

This is a massive quality-of-life fix for anyone who doesn't treat this game like a full-time job.

Fixing the Stuff That Should've Worked at Launch

They're also "refining player movement" to feel less "inconsistent". And they're "minimizing reticle movement" during animations, which I hope means my sight will stop bouncing all over the screen just because I climbed a pebble.

My favorite: they're fixing the lighting. No more "blinding light when looking outdoors" or "overly dark interiors". It'll be nice to actually see who's shooting me.

They also pushed a fix to "Custom Search" so it might actually put you in the map and mode you selected, though they warn it could mean "longer waits". I'll take it.

Yes, They're Fixing the Broken Guns

The gunplay is getting a much-needed pass. They're rolling out changes on October 28 to fix weapon dispersion.

They 'fessed up to two huge bugs. First, weapons fired right after sprinting would be wildly inaccurate, even if you were zoomed in.

Second, dispersion was spiking the instant you started moving, which is why aiming on a controller felt so awful. Even tiny adjustments would throw your shot. Fixing these two bugs alone might make the combat feel 100% better.

Battlefield Labs and BR: On Hiatus

If you were a fan of Battlefield Labs, too bad. They're putting it on "brief hiatus" to focus on Season 1.

They also talked about the Battle Royale mode, saying they're tweaking the TTK and armor based on feedback, but it's not here yet. They're also fixing heli balance in the BR, so they're not an "I win" button in the late game.

Honestly, this is a good update. It feels like they're finally tackling the deep, core problems I've had with the game since launch. That progression grind was a soul-killer, and seeing them walk it back so drastically gives me a little hope.

Now, let's see if all these fixes actually work when Season 1 drops on the 28th. I'm not holding my breath, but I am slightly less annoyed.
