How To Start The Woolhaven DLC In Cult Of The Lamb

If you just booted up the game expecting an immediate winter wonderland, I have some bad news for you.

You actually have to work for it. Unlike other expansions that just throw you into the new content immediately, Woolhaven forces you to prove you are worthy of the cold. I spent a good twenty minutes running around my base looking for a prompt before I realized I had to tick off a few boxes first. The game doesn't exactly hold your hand here, so if you are staring at green grass and wondering where the snow is, you probably haven't met the rather steep requirements yet.

The Prerequisites

Before you even think about snowballs, you need to handle your business in the base game. You cannot access Woolhaven until you have defeated the four Bishops.

If you are on a fresh save file, get comfortable. You are going to be here a while. This is effectively post-game content designed to make your life miserable after you have already conquered the main threats. Once you have wiped out the Bishops, a new shrine is going to pop up in your cult headquarters. Look to the right of the main stairs. If it is there, you are ready to start paying the toll.

The Shrine Offerings

The shrine isn't just a button you press. It is a demand for tribute. You have to provide four specific offerings in a specific order to fully unlock the DLC features.

I found this part annoying because if you don't have the materials stockpiled, you have to go back out on crusades to fetch them. Here is exactly what the shrine demands and where I found the goods.

THE WOOLHAVEN TOLL

Here is the shopping list you need to complete to trigger the apocalypse. I mean, winter.

Offering Required Where To Get It / My Take
5 Menticide Mushrooms Gather these from Anura. This is the first step. Once you hand these over, the snow finally starts falling and you get some decorations.
5 Crystal Shards Head to Anchordeep for these. Handing them in summons Gofernon, the architect who wants your gold bars.
5 Spider Silk Smash up Silk Cradle. This offering unlocks the Wedding Doctrine. Finally, your followers can marry each other.
1 Sin You harvest this from your followers. This is the final key that activates the full DLC mechanics.

The Point of No Return

I need to warn you about the Sin offering.

Once you hand over that Sin and fully activate Woolhaven, the game is going to flash a warning at you. Do not click through this blindly. It basically says that your save file is now permanently bonded to the Woolhaven DLC.

If you play on multiple devices (like switching between PC and Steam Deck) and one of them doesn't have the DLC installed, you will not be able to load this save. Once you invite the winter in, you are stuck with it. So make sure you are actually ready for the difficulty spike before you commit.

Got a hot take on this? I know you do. Head over to r/neonlightsmedia to discuss it.
