Cult of the Lamb: Woolhaven Survival Guide - Stop Freezing To Death
Winter in this expansion is not just a cosmetic filter, it is an active threat that wants to kill your entire workforce.
I learned this the hard way when I ignored the temperature gauge and half my cult ended up sick or dead within two in-game days. Woolhaven introduces a harsh cold mechanic that requires constant maintenance. You cannot just leave the game running in the background anymore. If you want your followers to survive long enough to worship you, you need to build the right infrastructure immediately.
The Rotburn Furnace Is Not Optional
Do not try to tough it out. The very first thing you need to do is build the Rotburn Furnace.
The game kind of nudges you toward this, but I cannot stress enough how vital it is. This isn't a decoration. As long as this furnace is running, your entire base stays warm. It doesn't matter where your followers are standing. However, the catch is fuel. The furnace burns through Rotburn like crazy, and if it goes out, the cold snap returns instantly.
Keeping The Fire Lit
You are going to need a steady supply of Rotburn. I found the most consistent way to get this is by destroying the crystals in dungeons or running the Rotburn Mines. Do not rely on finding it randomly in chests. If you run out of fuel during a blizzard, your faith tanking will be the least of your problems.
Alternative Heating Methods
Sometimes the furnace isn't enough, or maybe you just ran out of fuel because you were busy playing Knucklebones. Thankfully, there are other ways to keep the frostbite at bay.
I tested a few different strategies to see what was actually cost-effective versus what was a waste of resources. Here is the breakdown of your heating options.
The Wedding Loophole
There is one more trick I found that is honestly kind of hilarious.
If you use the new Follower Wedding Ceremony, the two followers involved get a temporary immunity to the cold. The game logic implies they are too busy "keeping each other warm" to notice the freezing temperatures. It costs 50 bones and requires two followers, but it also gives you a nice Faith boost. If you are desperate and low on Rotburn, just start marrying people off.
Embracing The Cold
It isn't all doom and gloom. Once you have the heat managed, you can actually interact with the snow.
If you see a pile of snow with sticks sticking out of it, interact with it to play a minigame where you build a snowlamb. It requires dropping three snowballs perfectly on top of each other. It doesn't give you resources, but it makes a nice decoration.
You can also start snowball fights by clearing smaller snow piles. I was worried this would count as an attack and lower faith, but it doesn't. You throw a snowball, they fall over, and everyone giggles. It is a rare moment of wholesome fun before you have to go back to sacrificing them for sin.
