Crimson Desert: How To Find And Adopt Every Dog In Pywel
Traversing a war torn continent is infinitely less depressing when you have a loyal hound picking through the pockets of your dead enemies.
The world of Crimson Desert is incredibly bleak, but the developers threw us a massive bone by allowing us to adopt the local strays. I have already covered the broader mechanics of how companion animals work in my Crimson Desert tame pets and companions guide, but today I am focusing strictly on the dogs. If you want a cat, you are going to have to wait for another day. We are looking exclusively for the good boys.
Having a dog following you around is not just a cosmetic flex. When you register a dog as a pet and summon them from your inventory, they actively run around and automatically loot enemy bodies and dropped items. They handle the tedious busywork while you focus on staying alive. To get one, you have to navigate a slightly annoying time gated trust system, track down the specific breed you want, and feed them a lot of expensive meat.
The Trust Grind
You cannot just walk up to a stray dog, put a collar on it, and call it a day. The game forces you to build a relationship first, and it mathematically prevents you from doing it in a single afternoon.
To adopt any animal, you need to raise its Trust level to a maximum of 100 points. You do this through two specific actions: petting and feeding. The catch is that both actions have strict daily limits that reset at midnight in game time.
Petting: You earn 5 Trust points every time you pet a dog. You can only do this five times a day, capping your daily petting limit at 25 Trust.
Feeding: You earn Trust by dropping meat on the ground near the dog. The points vary wildly based on the quality of the food. Basic Fine Meat only gives you 10 Trust, while Lean Meat yields a massive 35 Trust. Your daily feeding limit is capped at 50 Trust. If you are struggling to keep your bags full of high quality cuts, check my Crimson Desert resource gathering guide.
If you maximize your interactions, you can only earn 75 Trust in a single day. This means taming a dog takes a minimum of two in game days. If you do not want to stand around waiting for the sun to set, find a nearby bed and sleep for 12 hours to force the daily reset.
The "Fang Without A Master" Quest
If you want a guaranteed, heavily guided adoption process, you need to head to Hernand. There is a specific faction quest that acts as a perfect tutorial for the taming mechanics.
Look for the "Fang Without a Master" quest marker located just south of the Tannery in Hernand. It is part of the Scattered Embers category for the Greymane faction. You will find a stray Brown Dog wandering the area. An NPC named Naira basically tells you that she cannot care for the animal and suggests you step up to the plate.
This triggers the standard Trust grind. Since this quest usually follows another mission called "A Chunk of Meat," you should naturally have a stack of Lean Meat sitting in your inventory. Drop the meat, pet the dog, sleep to skip the daily limit, and repeat the process. Once you hit 100 Trust, interact with the Brown Dog to officially register it. You can now summon it to loot your enemies, and completing this also unlocks the next stage of the Greymane storyline.
Every Dog Breed Location
If you want a specific breed to match your aesthetic, you are going to have to do some traveling. Players have been scouring the map, and we have a pretty solid roster of where these dogs naturally spawn.
Once you have your dog, you can actually visit the local Tailor Shops to buy them specific pet armor. It provides absolutely zero gameplay benefits or stat boosts, but seeing a Husky wearing tiny plate mail while dragging a bloody sword back to you is arguably the best part of the game. If you are trying to grind the currency to afford these useless cosmetics, you should pull up my Crimson Desert make money fast guide.
