Deltarune Chapter 5 Guide: Everything To Do At The Festival

Before you rush straight to the Dark World and start swinging your sword, take a minute to play third wheel on a hometown date.

Pixel art street scene from Deltarune's Hometown during autumn, featuring orange trees, a flower cart, and colorful houses along a road.

Chapter 5 starts off a bit differently than you might expect. Instead of dropping you straight into a new Dark World, you kick things off with Festival Day in Hometown. Susie is technically on her first date with Noelle, making Kris the ultimate awkward tagalong. You have free roam of the town to see what everyone is up to before the main story kicks into gear.

The Complete Festival Checklist

There are 15 main activities and a couple of minor interactions scattered around the festival grounds. I put together a master list below so you do not miss a single scrap of dialogue.

Activity Location What To Do
Fried Dough Balls Head across the road from the school. Have each character eat the octopus dough balls for unique dialogue.
Dunk Tank Next to the dough stall. Choose whether you want to dunk or tank.
Strength Tester Left of the dunk tank. Pick two characters to test their relationship strength. I highly recommend picking Susie and Noelle.
The Priest Inside the church. Talk to him about the note Susie left following the Gerson Boom conversations from Chapter 4.
Haunted Blood Interact with the table in the church to trigger a quick, chaotic drinking cutscene.
Coffin Scare Check the coffin in the church to see Susie get hit with a jump scare.
Fortune Teller Visit the stall inside the church to have your fortune told.
Mega Cinnamon Bunnies Outside the diner. Interact with the stall and Noelle will offer to buy them for the group.
Ferris Wheel Left of the diner. Sans runs the ride. Pick who gets to go on it.
Ice Cream Head across the crossroads from the ferris wheel to grab a frozen treat.
Caricature Right of the ice cream stall. Tem will draw a caricature for you.
Listen to the TV Knock on the Napstablook House. If you donated Tenna in Chapter 4, you can listen through the wall to hear what they are watching.
Festival King and Queen Up the road from the caricature stall. Cast your vote. I voted Susie for King and Noelle for Queen as requested, but you can also vote for Berdly.
Berdly Right of the voting station. Trigger a very funny conversation about pity dates.
Buy Flowers Right of Berdly. Talk to Asgore at his stall for a deeply awkward chat about buying flowers for someone special.
Live Performance Pass through the gates left of the voting station to reach Noelle's house and watch a duo act.

If you keep poking around, you will find two extra, very minor interactions. Checking the giant teacup near the caricature stall gives you a limited conversation, and trying to visit Kris's house prompts the trio to comment on Toriel doing some gardening.

Does Skipping Activities Matter?

You might be wondering if you can just sprint past all these minigames.

During my playthrough, skipping the dough balls and ignoring the dunk tank did not seem to alter the immediate outcome of Chapter 5. However, this is a Toby Fox game. Actions have consequences. Given that this whole event is basically an excuse for Susie and Noelle to figure out their relationship, the choices you make here will probably ripple outward. Voting them in as Festival King and Queen feels like a guaranteed trigger for some unique dialogue in Chapters 6 and 7.

Moving The Story Forward

Once you get tired of exploring, you have to manually trigger the next sequence.

Head back to where Asgore was running his flower stall and try walking toward the beach. A message will pop up letting you know that you can hang out by the lake to officially end the festival, or carry on looking around.

If you are playing a normal run, finishing the festival eventually pushes you into the Dark World and toward the standard conclusion. If you want to mess with the finale, you should definitely read my Deltarune Chapter 5 Guide: Unlock The Balloon Ending so you know exactly which dialogue prompts to hit.

Conversely, if you loaded up a specific save file and Kris violently overslept, you probably missed this festival entirely. You can read my Deltarune Chapter 5 Guide: Surviving the Weird Route to figure out how to navigate the terrifying lake sequence that replaces it.
