Directive 8020 Guide: Tracking Down Every Curator Secret

Hunting down an omniscient narrator is the only way to figure out what kind of psychological torture Supermassive Games is plotting next.

An astronaut floats through space amidst shattered glass and glowing debris in a cinematic gameplay screenshot from Directive 8020.

The Dark Pictures Anthology usually features a sharply dressed man openly judging your terrible survival skills, but Directive 8020 flips that formula completely. You barely see the Curator for the vast majority of your time on the Cassiopeia. Instead of handing you cryptic clues between chapters, he is actively hiding from you. Finding him is no longer mandatory, it is a dedicated scavenger hunt. There are exactly five Curator Secrets scattered across the wrecked ship, and missing even one means you lose out on the complete narrative experience. I am going to show you exactly where to look so you do not have to scrub through dark hallways for hours.

The Reward For Your Trouble

Before you start tearing the ship apart, you need to understand how the game rewards you for finding these hidden items.

Finding just a single Curator Secret triggers a special cutscene showing parts of his mysterious table. Once you break the ice by grabbing that first item, the Curator will actually start appearing in the background of your regular cutscenes again. If you manage to collect all five secrets, the game rewards you with an exclusive bonus scene followed immediately by a teaser trailer for the developer's next title.

Because these items are scattered across the campaign, you are almost guaranteed to miss a few on your initial blind run. The game fully expects you to use the Turning Points system to reload past chapters to mop them up. If you are already bouncing around the timeline to fix your mistakes using my Directive 8020 character destinies guide, you might as well grab these secrets while you are wandering those early episodes anyway.

The Curator Secret Locations

Secret Name Episode & Location Details
The Man in the Bowler Hat Episode 1: Medical. Look for a tablet on the ground near the circular desk before interacting with the hull breach door.
Paranoia Episode 3: Search. Head inside the Mess Hall and go right to find a terminal sitting next to a power rerouter.
O_DTH Episode 5: Radio Silence. Immediately head up toward the cockpit at the start. It is resting on the left side of your path.
Bloodlines Episode 5: Radio Silence. Ignore Cooper's path into the Crew Lounge. Take the left path toward the other entrance to spot it.
This Doesn't Belong Here Episode 8: The Way Back. Solve the extensive vent and power cell puzzle to reach the cabinets. The coin is next to the recording.

Detailed Location Walkthroughs

Finding a vague room is easy, but actually spotting the item in the dark requires a bit more direction. Let me break down the exact pathing so you do not wander directly into an alien trap.

Episode 1 and Episode 3 Hidden Items

Your first opportunity to find a secret happens before the chaos truly kicks off. During Episode 1 in the Medical section, you will eventually need to interact with a door that leads to a hull breach. Do not touch that door yet. Look around the room for a large circular desk. You will find a tablet resting on the floor right near it. That tablet unlocks The Man in the Bowler Hat.

Later on in Episode 3, during the Search segment, you end up inside the Mess Hall. This room is distracting, but keep your focus locked on the right side of the area. You are looking for a terminal positioned right next to a power rerouter. Check that terminal to secure the Paranoia secret.

The Episode 5 Double Feature

Episode 5 is a hotspot for secrets, making it very easy to miss one if you just blindly follow the objective marker. During the Radio Silence section, you need to head up toward the cockpit the exact second the chapter starts. Keep your eyes glued to the left side of the path as you walk to spot O_DTH.

In that exact same episode, you reach an area near the Crew Lounge. Cooper naturally heads straight into the lounge, but you need to ignore that instinct. Instead of following her lead, walk down the left path that heads toward the secondary entrance of the lounge. Look to your left near that alternate door to claim the Bloodlines secret.

The Episode 8 Power Puzzle

The final secret is locked behind an actual environmental puzzle during The Way Back segment of Episode 8. You cannot just walk up to this one. First, you need to grab the power cell and plug it into the vents located behind you. Crouch down and crawl through those vents until you can lift the lockdown on the other side. This action reroutes power directly to the door.

Once you lift that initial lockdown, you have to reroute power again, this time to the other Server Control Panel. This opens up a tight path for you to squeeze through. Crouch into this new passage, reroute the power one final time, and lift the heavy cabinets out of the way. You will finally spot a coin sitting right next to a recording. Grab it to secure This Doesn't Belong Here and trigger your hard-earned teaser trailer.
