How to Find the Wandering Trader in Far Far West Before She Disappears
Stop sprinting around the map blindly hoping to stumble across good loot. You need an actual strategy to find this merchant.
The frontier in Far Far West is massive, and trying to track down a single moving target without a plan is a complete waste of your time. The Wandering Trader is a highly elusive NPC that actively patrols the map while you are trying to survive. She does not sit safely in a hub town waiting for you to walk up and browse her wares. If you actually want to get your hands on her premium inventory, finding her needs to be your absolute top priority during a run. The problem is that she has zero fixed spawn points. She wanders, exactly as her name implies.
However, she has a few specific habits that make tracking her down significantly easier. I spent hours hunting her across the desert so you do not have to. Before you start burning through your currency on terrible upgrades, check out my Far Far West weapon tier list so you know exactly what is worth your gold.
Tracking the Gunshots
The biggest mistake you can make is to try to find the Wandering Trader using your eyes. You need to use your ears.
This specific merchant does not passively hide from the monsters roaming the map. She actively fights back. The trader carries a heavy shotgun and will aggressively engage any enemies that cross her path. When you are exploring the map, you need to keep your ears peeled for the distinct, booming sound of shotgun blasts. The moment you hear that specific gunfire echoing over a hill, drop whatever you are doing and manually follow the noise to zero in on her location.
Forcing the Spawns
You cannot just boot up a casual run and expect her to show up. The game actively gates her appearance behind your chosen difficulty setting.
The Difficulty Lock
Take note that the Wandering Trader absolutely does not spawn if you are playing on the Easy difficulty. Do not waste your time searching. If you want to find her and access her inventory, you have to be playing on Normal or higher. If you are currently stuck on an Easy run, you need to tweak your difficulty settings before you load into your next match.
Area 41 on Nightmare
Technically, the merchant has the ability to spawn across any of the available maps. But if you want to optimize your time and farm her inventory, you need to head to Area 41 and crank the difficulty up to Nightmare. This specific combination grants the merchant her highest possible spawn chance in the entire game. I highly recommend just hopping on your horse, completely ignoring the enemies, and bolting through the map while listening closely for her shotgun blasts. What Does the Wandering Trader Sell?
You are putting yourself in extreme danger to find this NPC, so the payoff needs to be worth the effort. Her inventory is small, but it contains some of the most vital items for optimizing your late-game builds.
If you manage to track her down, make absolutely sure you buy everything you can afford. Once she wanders off or the match ends, you will have to start the hunting process all over again.
