FiveM Just Popped Up on SteamDB, and It Looks Official

If you thought Rockstar spent millions buying the FiveM team just to let them vibe in peace, I have a bridge in Los Santos to sell you.

For years, Grand Theft Auto roleplay has existed in this weird, beautiful, chaotic Wild West. It was the mod that Rockstar tried to ban, then ignored, and finally bought. Now, thanks to a fresh leak from the depths of SteamDB, it looks like the next phase of that corporate takeover is finally here. A specific application labeled "FiveM" has appeared on the Steam backend, and it is actively being updated by developers as we speak.

The SteamDB Smoking Gun

This isn't just a random rumor from a guy who knows a guy. The application is listed under App ID 2676230, and it is explicitly named "FiveM". According to the data miners over at SteamDB, the app has seen significant activity today, December 9, including updates to store assets, configuration files, and even a "released" state tag, although it is currently hidden from the public store.

The listing shows that the app is excluded from Family Sharing, which is standard procedure for competitive or online-focused titles that require external account linking. We are also seeing a tiny trickle of concurrent users, likely developers or QA testers, logging in and out, with a 24-hour peak of about 10 users. This is the digital equivalent of seeing lights on in the office after midnight. Something is shipping.

From Mod to Official Product

This move makes perfect sense in the grand scheme of Rockstar’s strategy. Back in August 2023, when Rockstar officially acquired Cfx.re (the team behind FiveM and RedM), we all knew it wasn't a charity case. They wanted to control the roleplay ecosystem that has kept GTA V relevant on Twitch for a decade.

Bringing FiveM to Steam as a standalone app, or an integrated launch option, removes the friction. No more downloading dodgy installers or navigating third-party websites. It puts the biggest roleplay platform directly on the storefront where millions of players already own the base game. It legitimizes the scene in a way we haven't seen before.

Is This "Project ROME"?

The timing also aligns with the swirling rumors about "Project ROME," Rockstar's internal initiative to build a proprietary modding and roleplay engine. While some speculated ROME would replace FiveM, this Steam listing suggests Rockstar might be using the FiveM brand as the Trojan horse to deliver this new tech.

If this goes live soon, likely alongside a cheeky announcement at The Game Awards or a random Tuesday blog post, it changes everything. It means better stability and official support, sure, but it also likely means Rockstar is about to tighten its grip on how servers are monetized. The Wild West is getting a sheriff, and he’s bringing a Steam page with him.
