Fortnite Grim Sprite Guide: How to Find the Mythic Tracking Companion
If you constantly find yourself getting shot in the back by opponents hiding inside heavy brush, your ultimate revenge tool has finally arrived.
The Part 2 update for Chapter 7 Season 3 is officially live, and it just unloaded a fresh batch of companions onto the landscape. While you can stumble across the basic aquatic companions covered in my fishy companion speed guide without much effort, hunting down the headline drop requires actual dedication. The Grim Sprite is a Mythic rarity companion that completely flips the script on ambushes by turning every bullet you take into a literal tracking beacon for your attacker. Before you spend forty matches tearing open standard containers and finding absolutely nothing, you need to understand the brutal math behind this drop. I spent my morning dodging sniper fire to map out the exact spawn conditions so you can start hunting efficiently.
Where to Find the Grim Sprite
Tracking down this specific companion is an absolute chore if you do not know exactly where to look. It sits comfortably at the absolute peak of the rarity tier, meaning the baseline drop rate is staggeringly low.
Sprite Chest Farming and Vault Chokepoints
To get your hands on this floating grim reaper, you have to target dedicated Sprite Chests. These specific containers hold almost the entire spawn pool for the base pet alongside its elusive Galaxy and Gummy variants. Since the raw spawn percentage is completely punishing, your best strategy is to flood the numbers by cracking open guaranteed drops.
Vaults are your safest bet for this method. Sneaking into a Rare Vault guarantees you at least one Sprite Chest. If you manage to survive the chaos around an Epic Vault, you get to rip open three of them at once. I highly suggest combining this strategy with the health boosts from my boss companion shield guide to ensure you actually survive the vault breach.
Server Modifiers and Anomalies
If fighting over highly contested vaults sounds like a fast track back to the lobby, you can manipulate the server clock instead. Epic Games runs a specific modifier called Mastery Mondays. Every single Monday starting at 9 AM ET and running for a full 24 hours, the background math shifts to make Mythic Sprites significantly more common across the map.
You should also keep your eyes glued to your HUD for the Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly. When this random event triggers, the game marks buried Sprite Chests on your map. Digging these up guarantees a Special Sprite drop, giving you an excellent shot at pulling a special Grim variant without fighting through heavily guarded choke points.
The Combat Tracking Buff
Securing the companion is fantastic, but taking it into a late-game circle is where the system completely breaks the competitive balance. The Grim Sprite is built entirely for aggressive retaliation.
Target Marking Mechanics
When you have this Mythic pet equipped in your active loadout, anyone who lands a shot on you gets immediately punished. The pet instantly marks your attacker for a short duration, painting a massive silhouette on them through solid walls and structures. You do not have to guess which window the sniper is hiding behind anymore. The moment you take damage, you know exactly where to return fire. If you pair this tracking utility with the infinite stamina tricks from my striker companion movement guide, you can push an offending opponent relentlessly until they run out of building materials.
Mastery Level Scaling
The tracking duration starts off short and scales up into a massive window as you level the pet up through containers and eliminations.
Five full seconds of active wallhacks is an eternity in a close-quarters shotgun duel. Set your alarm for Monday morning, grab a vehicle, and clear out those vaults before the rest of the server realizes they can no longer hide from their mistakes. The rest of us will just be trying to survive the match without accidentally shooting you and revealing our coordinates.
