According to a leak from Blortzen, relayed through Looloo_Wrld, the answer is that Sprites are sticking around for Chapter 7 Season 4. Great news for my sunk cost. What the Leak Actually Says
The claim itself is narrow, and it's worth sitting with how narrow before anyone gets excited. Sprites continue into Season 4, full stop, no detail yet on format changes. That leaves the questions that actually matter unanswered. Do the roughly 111 Sprites currently in the game carry over as a static collection, frozen wherever the Season 3 total lands? Does the season-specific stuff, the Batman and John Wick Sprites tied to their respective collabs, get pulled the moment those crossovers rotate out, the way themed content usually does? Or does the whole thing reset, forcing a second grind through variants I've already unlocked once? (Please no.) None of that is answered yet, and to be fair to the leak, it never claimed otherwise.
Worth Separating the Confirmed Part From the Rumored Part
I want to be precise about this, because it matters more than usual here. The season's Gaming Legends theme, Sonic, Mega Man, Persona 5, and a handful of other franchises, came out of Epic's own encrypted game files during the July 30 update. The character list keeps growing as more of that datamine gets picked apart. That's about as solid as a leak gets before an official reveal. The Sprites detail sits on much shakier ground by comparison, and I'll be honest, it's the kind of gap that gets flattened the moment three different outlets repost the same headline without checking where it actually came from. It traces back to a single leaker relaying secondhand information, not anything pulled from the game's own files, and other dataminers have floated a softer version of the same idea: some kind of collection and extraction mechanic survives into the new season, not necessarily the current Sprite system carrying over unchanged. Those are not the same claim, no matter how many places report them like they are.
Why Epic Would Probably Want to Keep Something Like It
None of this is a knock on the idea itself. Say what you want about bolting a collectible layer onto a battle royale, but Sprites actually gave me a reason to loop the whole map instead of skydiving straight into a fight and dying ninety seconds later like I usually do.
